AUGUST 2005:  INSTALLED NEW EXHAUST/HEADERS

SMT (thanks Mon!) has installed a new set of headers and exhaust.  The headers are about 34-36" long 2 3/8" diameter and are 4 into 1 design.  Mandrel bent and measured to equal lengths, these are the best custom headers I've used.  The collector design is also very well-made.  This has  made a big difference as the engine revs very smoothly.  The pick-up is much stronger. 

The rest of the exhaust is 2 3/8" all the way to the muffler.  All custom made by SMT.

The major learning here is to make sure the runners from the header is of equal length, precisely.  This makes a huge difference.  Also, the collector must be well made.  Please don't settle for collectors that simply wrap the pipes together without considering the tapering and the length of tubes inside the collector. 

I've chosen to go with the 4-1 design for better high-end power.  This motor easily develops low-end torque or at least enough to get my car going.  So we've chosen to try to move the power much higher in the powerband specially for track use.
