FAQ about the Acupuncture

How does the Acupuncture work?

As long as 2,500 years ago the Chinese people have treated health problems by having hair-thin needles inserted at particular points on their body.  Acupuncture does work based on the theory that there are patterns of energy, called chi, flowing through the body.  Disease or pain results when this energy is disrupted, weakened, or becomes stagnant.  The Doctor can correct the flow of energy by inserting needles a fraction of an inch into specific points on the body.  It is unclear how acupuncture works, though there is evidence that it can cure lot of kind illness.

What relation between Chinese herbology, acupuncture and Chinese medical massage (tuinah)?

Chinese herbology, acupuncture and various forms of Chinese medical massage (tuinah) are three parts of a single entity. They can be and often are used separately, and may be used together.  While acupuncture and herbal medicine typically focus on curing sickness, also focuses on maintaining good health and balanced for yin and yang internal while medical massage (tuinah) action from external to internal.

How does your doctor decide where to insert the needles?

Your doctor chooses the acupuncture points based on Chinese traditional medicine theory and philosophy.  There are specific points for each treatment which are based on meridians in your body and there are points that are specific to the condition you are being treated for.  But different doctor can have different choose or different compose of those point as it is philosophy level understanding traditional medicine theory and practice experience. It is oriental wisdom.  If every doctor handles each patient in same way, it does not need experience at all.  As years of practice of Dr. Yumei, it will give you better effect.

Does it hurt?

This varies from patient to patient. Some people feel a brief sting. Others feel a slight discomfort, which subsides after the needle is in.  The disposable needles may be inserted for 30 minutes.

How often do you have to go?

Some conditions can be successfully treated in a few treatments.  Some others may take up to a few longer treatments.  Patients suffering from chronic conditions may require regular treatments.
