| Imprisonment My mind wanders out beyond the wall of this confined cell. We are locked away to be forgotten, not even a glimpse of memory is left. Our so called "freedom" was only a dream, dangled before us by our tormentors. The jailor reads a book, indulged by the suspense of fine literature, while we suffer the torment of lonliness. They are given feasts and called heros, while we starve behind a window of iron bars. The air is stale with mold, and so thick with dust that it stiffles our breathing. Shadows of death linger in the coners of the room, praying on our fears; our devastation; devouring our hopes, destroying all those who are too weak. We are beaten into submission; a drop of blood for every sin we've commited, a tear streaming down for every regret, a memory lost every second that passes by. Fear is captiving, it consumes our every thought, and tempts us to insanity. Time stands still... We are drawn into an eternal abyss; a force too powerful to escape. We are slowly destroyed, by the power of our own minds. Our bodies rot behind a cage of metal, until we fade away into dust... ~Melissa Hawk~ ~July 23, 2001~ |
