Should a woman make up a prayer she intentionally delayed but had menses before praying? Answer by Sh. Ibn Jibreen |
Question: What is the ruling on a woman who delays a prayer after it has come in and then she begins menstruating (before having a chance to pray)? Does she have to make up this prayer?
Answer: There are many hadiths encouraging prayer as soon as it comes in, and that this is the best of deeds. This is because it is hastening to good. So it enters Allah saying,
“It is those who hasten to the good deeds, and they are foremost in them” [Al-Mu’minoon: 61]
and
“and of them are some who are, by Allah’s Leave, foremost in good deeds.” [Al-Fatir: 3]
Except for the Ishaa prayer, for it is better to be delayed and likewise the Thuhur (noon) prayer when it is extremely hot.
So it is upon women to hasten to the prayer especially if she fears that she will miss it due to menstruation.
If the time for prayer enters and she is taahir (free of menses), then her menstruation starts before she has prayed that prayer, she is responsible for making up that prayer when she is free of her menses.
