Dear Parents,
Interim reports come home on Friday. Everyone will receive one and it is the last one before the final report cards.
We need pencils. If you can get some for your own child, that would take care of the problem. I keep passing them out by the boxful and my supply has run out.
Flip flops are starting to show up now that the weather is warm. We went back and checked the handbook and it stated that they are not permitted. You might want to read through that section again before the summer clothes come out in full force. The gym teachers also would like to see the children dressed for gym. Street shoes and skirts are the items of clothing they mentioned as being problematic. Our gym days are on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Please return the manila envelopes with Benchmark 4 and practice tests if you have not already done so. 5 are still missing.
Country reports are due on May 15th. We’ll do the research and writing at school. Some of the children need books from the public library for one reason or the other. From home they will need help with 2 or 3 pictures for their poster and a hand drawn map. The presentation also requires a food, craft, or activity to share with the class that comes from their country.
We have completed all of the lower case cursive letters so will begin to leave printing behind for the rest of the year. This week’s spelling test will be done in cursive so please check for correct connections and letter forms.
We will continue with our Mini Mall on Thursdays, but each child will run his own specialty stand. If your child would like to sell a product (for school money, of course) they may bring in their goods on Thursdays. Home-made play doh, pretzels, cookies, ice pops, bubble gum, etc. are products that have sold well in the past. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive and participation is optional.
Topics for the week:
Spelling: calves,
halves, leaves, lives, shelves, wolves, ceiling, neither, eight, road, round,
start, young, May, because
Phonics: Long e spelled ei and plural -es
Composition: paragraphs
Math: Subtraction
and Addition, 3 digits with carrying and borrowing
Health: Chapter 10
Social Studies: Country Reports
Parents, please notice that the homework chart on the next page needs to be filled out and returned each Monday. There is also a place for you to let me know what your child did very easily or had trouble with or something that you didn’t understand about an assignment or request. I would really appreciate it if you would take the time to respond each week. It will help to do a better job planning for your child.
