| My Father in Me He was not a scholar of learned books His education learned with his hands He was not an actor of stage or screen His role played out in the life Ive seen He was not a politician, a governor of state His leadership skills grew a family great He will not be a man whom history will remember with renown His immortality lies in the hearts that he bound He was not a soldier with medals to honor his glory His accolades live on in the sons and daughters he fathered He was not a philosopher, yet had wisdom unknown His meanings in life through his children are shown He was not an athlete, one who dominated a sport His skills as a father won him honor and more He was as common a man as there be so many more His chosen path in life is what makes this world we adore So anyone who sees the things which we call good, in me Give thanks to my father, and remember, it is him that you see ~Jim Ferrell with help from my mom, Nettie |
