I can still remember that feeling the evening I went to pick it up. The tires were so dry rotted that we had to skid the car onto the roll-off. Once we got it loaded on my cousin Jerry's roll off we headed home. The 45 mile ride did the GTO some good, the wind blew a lot of the dust and bird droppings off the care. Whenever I looked out the rear window of the roll off, all I could see was the emblem that says GTO. We had to stop to get some gas for the roll-off. People that were pulling out, pulled back in and people who were pumping gas all came over to look at the Goat. The questions were the usual, where did you find it, is it original, does it have a tri power, ect.
Once the I got the car home, the first thing I wanted to do was clean it. With 25 years of neglect accumulated inside and out, no one could tell what needed to be done to the car. I first had to put on four tires to get the car to roll off the truck. Once we had it off the truck it was time to start scubbing. I woke up early the next day and started to scub. It took Andy and I all day to get this car looking and smelling good.
Once Andy, and I got the car washed and rubbed it out we were shocked at how nice it still looked. In fact my wife would now sit in it without worries of catching something from it. |
