From Colorado Springs we headed toward Santa Fe. The foliage in New Mexico was just beginning to change colors and the drive through the mountains was very enjoyable.

In Santa Fe we saw Jim's old Air Force buddy Bernie Ramero. Bernie was an Navigator in the same KC-97 squadron that Jim flew as a Co-pilot, the 98th ARS. We hadn't seen Bernie in about 30 years.

Bernie is an architect in Santa Fe and designed the Building used on the 1998 US 32 cent postal stamp commemorating Santa Fe's roll in the setteling of the Southwest.

Santa Fe is a beautiful old city with a strong Mexican flavor. The downtown square is dominated by the beautiful St. Francis cathedral.
