Jim Raleigh's Home Page

Welcome!!

I'm a 39 y.o. Divorced Professional White Male of Irish (and a little Italian) descent working as an Nuclear Engineering Consultant. I also play drums and sing professionally on the side...

This WebPage has been assembled in an effort to: locate fellow musicians looking for collaboration or to form a music group, offer for sale the music I've recorded with bands, to sell some of the products I've come up with for musicians (mainly drum hardware -- See Below!!), and to share pictures of my "toys" with whoever may enjoy them.

Music:

I've been involved in music since the age of 5 starting on both the cello and percussion. Through Grade School and High School, I was the best cellist and drummer. In 9th Grade I gave up the cello and put those skills to playing guitar and bass. I had a rock band ("Starflight Stallion") starting when I was 12 and began playing for money when I was 14 at local High School dances. Throughout High School I played in the Concert Band, Stage (Jazz) Band, Orchestra, Chorus and numerous Rock Bands after school. I also entered New York State music competitions and achieved the highest grades possible for a drum soloist.

Continuing into College, I formed bands that played out for money and I still play out today. One band of note was the "ECSTATICS" out of Long Island, which got airplay in New York. I was in the all-original Hard Rock band "TRACER", which received airplay in the Washington D.C Metro Area (on DC 101 and others). The last band I was with, "PENTAMERON", played all-original Technical Rock (e.g., Dream Theater, Rush, Yes, Malmsteen, etc.) and, with all modesty aside, we were excellent!! This group was together for about 5 years and also received airplay in the Washington D.C Metro Area. PENTAMERON won a Rodell Record's contest to be on their "Raw Cuts" compilation album. We also amassed a pile of rejection letter from the likes of Geffen, Warner Brothers, Sony, and Electra that said the band was great, but it was the wrong style of music for the times.

I have TRACER and PENTAMERON CDs for sale if you're interested. Only $10 each, including shipping and handling.

I still stay up on my drum and guitar playing and have given lessons to others on both instruments. I have sung lead vocals for groups in the past but prefer to sing backups. With 25 years of playing drums semi-professionally and plenty of technical chops, I am looking for studio work or to form a working band again. If you're serious about putting something together out there, drop me a line.

I have also provided services as a Sound Engineer for a number of groups, and they have been very pleased with my work. Many have said that they have never sounded better and they liked not getting any feedback from the equipment!!

Music Gear:

I've attached numerous pictures of my music gear. I have Mackie 32x8, BiAmp 1642, and Mackie 1202 Mixers, and run the mains in 4-Way Stereo. I use all QSC power for mains, Peavey power for Monitors, all the necessary Lexicon, Alesis, and DBx Effect Units, EQs, BBEs, Compressors, Gates, and Feedback Eliminators. Of course, I have all the various microphones, snakes, cables, direct boxes, etc. that go along with owning a PA. I also have 2 full acoustic drum sets, 1 V-Drum Kit, 7 Fender Stratocasters, a Fender acoustic, an ESP 7-string electric, a Washburn 6-string Bass, a 1969 Marshall Major Amp and 2 full stacks of Marshall 4x12 cabinets. I've acquired quite a lot of gear over the years as you can see!!! Yup, I am serious about my music!!

My Other Toy:

This is my 1977 Triumph TR7. It's loaded with a Buick Grand National V6 Turbo Engine (Modified to about 4.0 Liters and all Hi-Performance), bolted up to a Camaro 5-Speed transmission, a chopped Bronco drive-shaft, and a Mustang rear-end!!! It's quite a pocket rocket!!

Casters for Drum Racks:

Are you a Drummer with a Rack System for your kit??? I have just the thing to make your life so much easier!!!

Although it is not pictured above, last year I put a set of 4 Casters on my V-Drum kit!!! It really is great to be able to fold the Rack System in a bit while the kit is fully assembled and roll it out of the house, on to the truck, and into the place you're playing!!!!! It saves so much time!! No more hassles with set-up and tear-down, just roll your kit away!!!!

The Casters I am offering have expanders that insert into the bottoms of your rack tubing. You tighten them into place and there you go, your kit is mobile!!! Also, with one press of your foot, these Casters totally lock!!! That is, the wheel will not rotate within the Caster, and the Caster will not pivot around the Rack leg!!! You're set in place until its time to roll away again!!

When I set out to find Casters for myself, I was outraged by the prices I got from Roland, and other Music Hardware companies. They were unbelievably expensive -- some companies wanted as much as $83 per wheel!!! So I went out to find my own source. I extensively researched all the Caster Supply companies I could find and was happy to find a company that blew the competition away!!! I have saved that major hassle of finding the wheels and, in addition, I worked out a deal with the Caster Company on bulk orders so I can pass even more saving on to you!!! : )

The load rating for these Casters are conservatively listed at 250 pounds each!! A set of 4 will easily handle at least 1,000 pounds of Drum Rack!!! That's enough capacity to handle most any Rack System Drum Kit you could dream of building!! For absolutely monster-sized Rack System Drum Kits, casters with higher load ratings are also available. (My black Pearl Session Elite monster pictured above is mounted on 5 of these Casters with no problem.)

A set of 4 Casters for your Drum Rack will cost you only $50, plus shipping and handling to your door!!!! Sets of 5 are also available for $62, plus shipping and handling!!!
