Uses of Reflecting Telescope

telescope (noun),-\par 1. An optical instrument for making distant objects appearing nearer and larger. The Macquarie Dictionary.

A telescope is a device used to magnify the appearance of a distant object. They also help to produce images of an object that could not otherwise be seen with the naked human eye. A large reflecting telescope can gather more than 1,000,000 times more light than the human eye, according to World Book Encyclopedia 2001. A source which I would classify as reliable.

Reflecting telescopes have been used for warfare, navigation and spying. They are mostly used to study objects that we could not see in detail otherwise. They helped us to determine the age of the universe and the chemical composition of the stars among other things.

Recent developments in the use of reflecting telescope technology has allowed us to capture images never seen before through the Hubble Space Telescope and gain a greater understanding into our universe and its occupants.
