Our Town Booth Theatre December 22, 2002 This production's highlight was the incomprable, Paul Newman. It was very exciting to see Mr. Newman live - he really does look like his picture on his salad dressing bottles! Unfortunately, we had the understudy for the Emily character, usually performed by Maggie Lacey. Though Erika Thomas was good, she lacked the necessary intensity in the role which was sorely evident during the realization scene. As a result, the overall feeling of the show was flat. What I liked most about the show was the minimalist props. I like nothing better than seeing 'raw' acting, people eating with no utensils or food, for example, but you're tasting every bite along the way. It's very refreshing. |
