What a wonderful musical! I never saw the orignal, but the friend I saw the show with, did and thought it was much better than the original with Raul Julia. This production starred Antonio Banderas, Mary Stuart Masterson, Laura Benanti, Jane Krakowski and Chita Rivera. It's based on the movie 8 1/2 by Fellini. It's about a director (Banderas) who loves his wife (Masterson) but can't help loving the many women in his life. Banderas owned the stage especially during his major number, "Guido's Song". The company was fantastic and Mary Stuart Masterson, was perfect as his Italian wife - and what a voice, I might add! Truly a wonderful theater event. Well worth seeing and I think Harvey Fierstein will have a little competition for the Tony for Best Actor in a Musical. NINE was a TEN in my book!!
