I'm also a breath away from from the George Washington Bridge ...
and I am looking forward to my first walk over it!

Washington Heights
New York, NY
Washington Heights is located at the northern most end of Manhattan. At present, it is home to a large Dominican community.  Washington Heights and the neighborhood above, Inwood, is rich in history. It is believed that in 1626, the Indians sold Manhattan Island to Peter Minuit in what is known today as Inwood Hill Park. In 1965, Malcom X was assassinated while speaking at a rally at the Audobon Ballroom (168th St & Broadway).  It is also home to the American Numismatic Society (the study and appreciation of coins and metals) as well as the Hispanic Society of America.

The Forgotten Neighborhood of Manhattan
Left is a map of Manhattan Island. As you can see, Washington Heights is all the way up there.

To the Right is a postcard from 1916 looking north from 179th and Broadway.
I'm a stone's throw away from the Cloisters, located in Fort Tryon Park.
An Incredible park, if I may add.

Click on each pic for a different Cloisters link!

J Hood Wright Park - just a block from my flat - isn't it cute how the playset is like a little bridge? The real pylons act as a backdrop to the park (see below). Quite a sight.
The GW Bridge Bus Station - bad pic but a striking piece of architecture for 1963
