GYPSY Sam Shubert Theatre May 15, 2003
This is the third time I've seen a professional production of GYPSY. The first time was in 1989, starring Tyne Daly, and then in 1998 with Betty Buckly and Deborah Gibson. I've also seen the film version with Bette Midler. Tyne Daly was my favorite, until now. Bernadette Peters stars in this wonderful revival as the quinticential stage mother. Joining Ms. Peters is Tammy Blanchard as Louise (Gypsy), John Dossett as Herbie, David Burtka as Tulsa, and Kate Reinders as June. This was hands down the best version of Gypsy I've ever seen! Ms. Peters deserves all the accolades she received. The show is tight and all the performances were at their best. Not a bad thing to say. Don't miss out on this historical performance and show! |
