Freedom

I stood on Lookout Mountain

and gazed across the sky.

I saw the hills and valleys

and then I wondered why.

Why so many soldiers had

to fight in wars and die.

Thousands died in battle,

the wounded many more,

from the isle of Iwo Jima

to the Normandy shore.

I think I know the answer,

it is pretty plain you see,

they all died in battle

to grant this right to me -

To stand on lookout mountain

and gaze across the sky.

Never take this for granted;

the price was mighty high.
