| Death Notice Services will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 26 in the Peacock-Wood Chapel for William Oscar Brown. The rev. Brad Stenberg will officiate, with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation is set for Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Brown died Feb. 22, 1988 at his home He was born Aug. 6, 1902 in El Reno, Ok., the son of John Melton Brown and Mary Elizabeth Herman. In 1914 he moved with his mother and three brothers to Prowers County on a farm 17 miles south of Lamar, where they homesteaded. He continued to farm and ranch the homestead until hi death. He also broke wild horses and made a number of cattle drives to railheads at the Kansas Stockyards. He played the fiddle at country dances in the community. He was proceded in death by his father and mother; his three brothers, Bennett, Lloyd, and Ed; and by one great grandson, Benny Joe Wallace. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of the family home; three sons, Lloyd (Bertha) Brown of Madison, Tn., Charles (Juanita) Brown of Lamar, and Clyde (Janie) Brown of Amarillo, Tx.; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Don) Richards of Amarillo, Tx., Margaret (Bill) Beck of Florence, and Norma (Fred) Cox of Wiley; 25 grand children; and 11 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to thr Childdren's Hospital in care of the funeral home office. Peacock-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
