Jim Fink began playing electric bass in 1968 in very loud rock bands around the San Francisco Bay Area.
His first CD entitled “Within Reach” contains many of the jazz standards we all know and love. It was released in 1999 and was well received. It features Craig Buhler on sax, Bob Woll on piano and Steve Macatee on drums. Available through CD Baby.
His second CD, “Where Angels go to Rest” is his debut solo album. Ambient, experimental and droning voyages using multiple basses, multi layering and textures. Very positive reviews. Recorded direct to DAT.Features BJ Erkan on Zaphoon (wooden flute with also sax mouth piece)
Jim’s third CD, “Hidden Paths” was based on a live radio broadcast on KMLP with percussionist Casey Jones aka Noise Poet Nobody. The CD is much darker, industrial and haunting. Expanding beyond the electric bass, he employs the use of rhythm machines and a plasma ball.

Jim’s musical journey playing drums and percussion in elementary school stage bands in the early and mid 60s. Toward the late 60s, Jim picked up the electric bass.
During college, Jim studied music theory at Laney College, Oakland, CA and later UC Berkeley, CA, 1978. He was involved with the jazz programs at both colleges where he performed regularly on and off campus.
He spent a year in England working in east London pub bands before moving to Seattle in 1981.
Jim has performed in: Monterey Jazz Festival CA, Folklife Festivals, Kirkland Jazz Nights, Bud Shank's Jazz Festivals in Port Townsend, WA, Kirkland Summerfest!, Washington's Evergreen State Fair and various theater groups. Everything from Canada’s Honorable Prime Minister Tredeau to the San Jose Chapter of the Hell’s Angels,
Jim is a faculty member of the National Guitar Workshop as a bass instructor. He is currently performing with two area big bands, his jazz trio, a folk-rock band and free-lances.
