| The Troubles (1980s) The eyes of the children peek out Through broken windows, behind burnt cars There's a chill in the air as the sun goes down But hearts are kept warm by an inner fire The feet of the children are bloody But they continue to do their dance Over the bodies of friends and family Around the coils of rusted barbed wire It's true that Northern Ireland Is far away from me And all I know about it Is what I've seen on TV And everything that happens there Is hard to understand But how can I forget Bobby Sands? Now I'm not taking sides Because I don't know all the facts And it seems to me that both sides Have caused their share of bloodshed But I think about the children And what it does to them How long before they hold a gun? How long before they're dead? It's true that Northern Ireland Is far away from me And all I know about it Is what I've seen on TV And everything that happens there Is hard to understand But how can I forget Bobby Sands? |
