Mutterings on the Sneeze                            (September 1997)

It has, of late, occurred to me
that being near a persons sneeze
is somewhere I wish not to be;
it makes me feel quite ill at ease.

I move away, I change my course,
and revamp my destination
to avoid the army of germs unleashed
by a messy sternutation.

Who can say what bacterial brigade,
virus corps or infectious disease
is occupying all the flying
particles in the spray of a sneeze?
