27: Behold, the days come, [is] Yahaveh's oracle, that I will sow the house of Israel (see 2:4) and the house of Judah (see 3:18. Here we have the union of the two houses. Israel is always named first, for this was the name of the whole nation, which Judah was not) with the seed of mankind, and with the seed of beast.

28: And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, [is] Yahaveh's oracle.

29: In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge. (a proverb, mentioned here for the first time. Here restated, and corrected in v.30)
30: But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eats the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

31: Behold (quoted in Heb.8:8-12; 10:16,17) , the days come, [is] Yahaveh's oracle, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: (see Matt.26:28)
32: Not according to the covenant that I made (see Ex.24:3-8) with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt (see Ex.19:4. Deut.1:31; 32:11,12) ; which My covenant they broke, although I was an husband to them, [is] Yahaveh's oracle: (an analogy and a Homonym [b'al] with 2 meanings: (1) to be lord, or master, hence to be a husband; (2) to distain, or reject. If it be the later here, the last clause will read, "and I rejected [or abhorred] them declared Yahaveh". So the Syr. and other ancient interpreters. Moreover, it is quoted thus in Heb.8:9, "and I regarded them not, says Yahaveh")
33: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel (some codices read "the sons of": i.e. the whole nation) ; After those days, [is] Yahaveh's oracle, I will put My law in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts (or better, minds. This will be the discipline during that time. Cp. Ezek.11:19; 36:26. Heb.10:16) ; and will be their Elohim (cp. 24:7; 30:22; 32:38) , and they shall be My People.

34: And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother (= to goad - a rod - to learn, in love, God's way of correction. Looking forward to the Millennium), saying, Know Yahaveh: for they shall all know Me (see 9:24. "Know" put for all the effect of knowing Yahaveh), from the least of them to the greatest of them, [is] Yahaveh's oracle; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

35: Thus says Yahaveh, Which gives the sun for a light by day (see Gen.1:16), and the statutes of the moon and of the stars for a light by night (see Gen.8:22. Cp.33:20,25.), Which divides the sea when the waves thereof roar (He created it all); Yahaveh Sabaioth is His name:
36: If those statutes depart from before Me (i.e. if the very laws of nature depart. So sure is the literal fulfilment of these prophecies concerning the literal restoration of Israel), [is] Yahaveh's oracle, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me all the days. (see 32:23)
37: Thus says Yahaveh; If heaven above can be measured (another asservation as to the literal fulfilment of Israel's restoration), and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, [is] Yahaveh's oracle.

38: Behold, days are coming, [is] Yahaveh's oracle, that the city shall be built to Yahaveh from the tower of Hananeel (on the north-east corner) as far as the gate of the corner.(at the north-west. p. 2 Kings 14:13)
39: And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it over (some codices read "as far as") the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath. (not named elsewhere. Gareb = scabby, Goath = lowing)
40: And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook of Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be set apart to Yahaveh; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for times age-abiding.

THE TWENTY-FIRST PROPHECY OF JEREMIAH

32) 1: The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahaveh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah (This Chapter commences an historical part of the Book, describing the incidents of the two years proceeding the capture of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzer. See v.2, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar. Another contact between Biblical and secular chronology. See Jer.25:1-3
2: For then the king of Babylon's army was besieging Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison to which Jeremiah had access. Cp. vv.8, 12, and 33:1, which was in the king of Judah's house.
3: For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up one of the eleven ruler who were offended with God's messengers. See Ex.10:28, saying, "Wherefore do you prophesy, and say, 'Thus says Yahaveh, 'Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;
4: And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes he should go to Babylon (34:3). Yet Ezekiel (12:13) declared that he should not "see" Babylon. Both statements were true; for we read that Zedekiah did "see" the king of Babylon at Riblah, but his eyes being put out there (2 Kings 25:6,7), he never saw Babylon, though he was lead there. See52:10,11.;
5: And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, is Yahaveh's oracle: 'though you all fight with the Chaldeans, you all shall not prosper?' ' "

THE TWENTY-SECOND PROPHECY OF JEREMIAH.

6: And Jeremiah said, "The word of Yahaveh came to me, saying,
7: 'Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle i.e. Shallum, not Hanameel, who was Jeremiah's cousin. See next verse. shall come to you, saying, 'Buy you my field that is in Anathoth Acc. to Num. 35:6, this would be within 2,000 cubits of Anathoth.: for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.' ' " ref. to Lev. 25:24,25,32. Cp. Ruth 4:6

8: So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of Yahaveh, and said to me, "Buy my field, I pray you, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself."

Then I knew that this was the word of Yahaveh.

9: And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen 17 = Spirit order shekels of silver aprox.1 oz..
 10: And I subscribed the deed, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.
11: So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom see v.7, and that which was open:
12: And I gave the evidence of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel my uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed some codices reas "whos[se names] were written" the book of the purchase,and before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.
13: And I charged Baruch before them, saying,
14: "Thus says Yahaveh Sabaioth, the Elohim of Israel; "Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this deed which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel we are earthen vessels, that they may continue many days.' i.e the 70 years, of which 52 years had yet to run (deducting 18 years from the 4th of Jehoiakim to the 10th of Zedekiah

 15: For thus says ahaveh Sabaioth, the Elohim of Israel; 'Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.'"

 16: Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to Yahaveh, saying,
17: Ah Adonai Yahaveh! behold, You have made the heaven and the earth by Your great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for You:

18: You show lovingkindness to thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty El, Yahaveh Sabaioth, is His name,
19: Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for Your eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
20: Which has set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made You a name, as at this day;
21: And has brought forth Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;
22: And has given them this land, which You did swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;
23: And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not Your voice, neither walked in Your law; they have done nothing of all that You commanded them to do: therefore You have caused all this tumult to come upon them:

24: Behold the mounts, they are come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what You have spoken is come to pass; and, behold, You see it.
25: And You have said to me, O Adonai Yahaveh, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26: Then came the word of Yahaveh to Jeremiah, saying,

27: Behold, I am Yahaveh, the Elohim of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
28: Therefore thus says Yahaveh; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:

29: And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger.
30: For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before Me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked Me to anger with the work of their hands, says Yahaveh.
31: For this city has been to Me as a provocation of My anger and of My fury from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from before My face,
32: Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
33: And they have turned to Me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.
34: But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by My name, to defile it.
35: And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into My mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

36: And now therefore thus says Yahaveh Sabaioth, the Elohim of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence;

37: Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in My anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:
38: And they shall be My People, and I will be their Elohim:
39: And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may revere Me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:
40: And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.
41: Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with My whole heart and with My whole soul.

42: For thus says Yahaveh; Like as I have brought all this great tumult upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

43: And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
44: Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, says Yahaveh.
