1 Behold, Yehovah's's hand is not shortened (see Num.11:23. Cp. 50:2. The phrase occurs nowhere else in O.T.), that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear: (Regardless how bad morals and things get, don't think God can't do something about it and help you)
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your Elohim, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear. (cp. 45:15; 54:8; 57:17)
3 For your hands are defiled with blood (poluted.See Ezra 2:62. Neh7:64. Lam.4:14. Dan.1:8,8. Zeph.3:1. Mal.1:7,12), and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perverseness. (= wickednss. Traditions of men have changed)
4 None sues for righteousness (nobody calls for what is right), nor any pleads in truth: they trust in confusion (as in Gen.1:2 ["without form"]. See 24:10), and speak vanity; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity (emptiness).
5 They hatch adders' eggs (or, vipers'. See 11:8), and weave the spider's web: (see 19:9) he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper. (this is what false teaching will do)
6 Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. (this is what the false teaching turns into)
7 Their feet run to evil (feet put for the whole person. Quoted in Rom.3:15,16), and they make haste to shed innocent blood: (see Deut.19:10,13; 21:8,9) their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their highways. (Think for yourself. These lead a trail of confusion, not peace of mind. Ignorance is no excuse. If you were running a company and you had an employee that would never study the program that you put forth, that you desired to have done to accomplish something, create a product, that would produce fruit. If you had an employee going the other direction all the time, what are you going to do? Get rid of him. That's what God does. He's no different)
8 The way of peace they know not (see Rom.3:17. Its imposible to have peace of mind without knowing God's plan); and there is no righteousness in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goes therein shall not know peace.

9 Therefore is righteousness far from us, neither does righteousness overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. (this happens if you look for your guidence from this world today)
10 We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: (see Deut.28:29. Idea the same, but word different. The word in Deuteronomy is the same as in Gen.27:12,22; 31:34,37. Ex.10:21. Job 5:14; 12:25. The word in Isaiah occurs nowhere else. There is no need to grope when you posses the Word of God AND STUDY IT!!!) we stumble at noon day as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men.
11 We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves:
we look for righteousness, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us. (IF you are not in the right walk)
12 For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them; (you are hurting if you don't know them)
13 In transgressing and lying against Yehovah, and departing away from our Elohim (they have "big plans", none are which are God's plans), speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
14 And righteousness is turned away backward, and righteousness standes afar off:
for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. (our judicial system is falling. Get ready for this!)
15 Yea, the truth is found missing; and he that departs from evil makes himself a prey: (i.e.is liable to be despoiled, or outlawed. Rashi says, "is considered mad")

and Yehvah saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no righteousness. (when you make a stand God sees it)
16 And He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor:
therefore His arm brought salvation to Him; (this is where Christ enters) and His righteousness, it sustained Him. (= hold up. Peace of mind comes with stability. Set firm, set in place, to not be moved. God guaranted it. When you try to do what is right)
17 For He put on (note that all the armour is for defence) righteousness as a coat of mail, and an helmet of salvation upon His head; and e put on the garments of avenging for clothing (vengeance belongs to our Father. Cp. 61:2; 63:4. The Oxf. Gesenius explains it as "of Yehovah as Champion of Israel" [p.528 b]), and was clad with jealousy as a cloak.
18 According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, fury to His adversaries, recompence to His enemies; to the maritime-countries He will repay recompence. (shore to shore, coast to coast, around the world)
19 So shall they fear the name of Yehovah from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun (all the way to the east).
When the enemy shall come in like the flood, (the Nile in its overflow. Also, spiritually, flood of lies)
the Spirit (Ruach) of Yehovah shall lift up a standard (or, banner [of truth and knowledge]. See Ex.17:15. God's election. See Ps. 3) against him.
20 And a Redeemer (i.e. the Messiah. Quoted in Rom.11:26,27, showing that the fulness of the Gentiles [= nations] must be the fulness of the Gentile [nations] time) shall come for (i.e. on behalf of) Zion, and to them that turn (i.e. God's election) from transgression in Jacob," says Yehovah.
21 "As for Me, this is My covenant (= contract) with them," says Yehvah; My spirit that is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your seed, nor out of the mouth of your seed's seed," says Yehovah, "from henceforth and for ever." (this coming deliverence for Israel will be final, and cannot therefore as yet have taken place. See Num.16:14-30)

1 Arise, (cp. 51:9,17, "awake"; 52:2, "awake"; 60:1, "arise"; and contrast the cry to Babylon [47:1], "come down, sit in the dust". This refers to the future)
shine (cp. 2 Sam.23:4); for your light (i.e. Israel's glory) is come,
and the glory of Yehovah is risen upon you. (cp. s.106:20. Jer.2:11. Hag.2:3,7,9)
2 For, behold (call to attention to the condition of the nations just before Israel's future glory shines forth), the darkness shall cover the earth,
and gross darkness the peoples:
but Yehovah shall arise upon you, and His glory shall be seen upon you.
3 And the nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 Lift up your eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to you (this is still future): your sons shall come from far, and your daughters (these are not Gentiles [i.e. nations] therefore, but true Israelites [Jer.31:10]. Cp. Ezek.34:11-15) shall be nursed at your side. (carried on the shoulders. See 49:22)
5 Then you shall see, and flow together (or, according to Targum and Syr., "shall be lightened", as in Ps.34:5), and your heart shall praise (see Hos.3:5), and opened as with joy; because the abundance of the rich seafaring peoples shall be turned to you, the forces (= fulness, riches, wealth, or resources. This prophecy looks far beyond the return under Ezra-Nehemiah. See vv.12,15, &c.) of the nations shall come to you.
6 A stream of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah (a Medianite tribe [Gen.25:4]); all they from Sheba shall come (cp. Ps.72:10. Both descended from Abraham and Keturah): they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of Yehovah.
7 All the flocks of Kedar (see 21:16,17; 42:11; and cp. Gen.25:13. Ps.120:5. Song 1:5) shall be gathered out to you, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you (a tribe allied to Kedar, descended from Ismael [Gen.25:13].): they shall come up with acceptance on My altar, and I will beautify My beautiful house.
8 Who are these (probably of the sips whose sails are compared to wings, developed in next verse) that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?
9 Surely the maritime lands shall wait for Me (cp. 42:4; 51:5), and the ships of Tarshish in the first rank (see 2:16), to bring your sons from far (this looks beyond Babylon), their silver and their gold with them, to the name of Yehovah your Elohim, and to the Set Apart One of Israel, because He has glorified you.
10 And the sons of foreigners (see Ex.12:43. Lev.22:15. These were expressly exluded) shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister to you: for in My wrath I smote you (cp. 54:8. Zech.1:15), but in My favour have I had mercy on you.
11 Therefore <>your gates shall be open continually (Heb. they shall keep your gates open. The word "they" is impersonal: i.e. they who are continually bringing the exiles with their riches. Cp. the same idiom in Luke 12:20, "they demand your soul"); they shall not be shut day nor night (these coming times are already being foreshadowed, for this has already been the case for the past few years. This looks beyond the Ezra-Nehemiah period, see Neh.13:19); that men may bring to you the forces of the nations, and that their kings may be brought.
12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish (this is still future); yes, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
13 And the glory of Lebanon shall come to you, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of My sanctuary (i.e. the Temple. Cp. 35:2. Ps.99:5; 132:7); and I will make the place of My feet glorious.
14 The sons also of them that oppressed you shall come bending to you (not fulfilled yet. Matt.8:11 refers to this. Cp. Mal.1:11); and all they that despised you shall bow themselves down at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you; The city of Yehovah, The Zion of the Set Apart One of Israel.
15 Whereas you has been forsaken and hated (the type of the forsaken wife is changed to that of the forsaken Land. See 1:4), so that no man went through you, I will make you an eternal excellency, a joy of generation after generation. (this cannot refer to the prosperity of any past period of Israel's history)
16 You shall also suck the milk of the nations, and shall suck the breast of kings:
and you shall know that I Yehovah am your Saviour and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob. (see Gen.49:24. Cp. 49:26. Ps.132:2-5. Including the whole natural seed, as well as the spiritual seed of Israel. See Gen.32:28; 43:6; 45:26,30)

17 For brass I will bring gold (note the contrast of this verse with 3:24. Cp. also 1:23-25), and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make your officers peace, and your tax-gatherers righteous. (see Luke 3:13. The very opposite of what they have been)
18 [So shall] Violence no more be heard in thy land (cp. Gen.6:11,13), wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls (cp.26:1) Salvation (or, Victory), and your gates Praise.
19 The sun shall be no more your light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light to you: but Yehovah shall be to you an everlasting light, and your Elohim your glory.
20 Your sun shall no more go down; neither shall your moon withdraw itself: for Yehovah shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.
21 Your people also shall be all righteous (this verse and the aove are prophecies that yet await fulfilment): they shall inherit the land for ever (this setles the whole question as to any fulfilment in the past), the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may get Myself glory.
22 The little one (i.e. he who has no sons, or few) shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation:
I Yehovah will hasten it in its time.

1 The Spirit (Ruach. Quoted in Luke 4:18,19. The speaker is therefore he Messiah) of Adonai Yehovah is upon me; because Yehovah has anointed Me (Matt.3:17, with the Divine formula of consecration, "This is My Son", for the office of Prophet; Matt.17:5 for the office o Priest; Ps.2:7 and Heb.1:5, for the office of King) to preach good tidings to the oppressed; He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and an opening of the understanding (or, heart, instead of prison doors. refers to the opeing of the vision) to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the year acceptaance of Yehovah (or jubilee year [Lev.25:9,10]. We may render, "A year of good-pleasure for Yehovah, But a day of vengeance for our God), {But] the day of vengeance of our Elohim (cp. 59:17; 63:4. This is a notable example of how to rightly divide "the Word of truth", when we observe that the Messiah, in quoting this prophecy concerning Himself in Luke 4:18,19, "closed the book", and did not go on to quote further in v.20, because the former part of the prophecy referred to the then present time, and not to the future Dispensation of judgment. The Heb. accent seperates these two clauses, indicated by "But", above. Note that the vengeance is assigned to a "day", in contrast with "year"); to comfort all that mourn; (see 3:26, and cp. Matt.5:4)
3 To set (as a permanent, irrevocable thing) to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them an ornament (or nuptial tiara) for ashes (as put on the head, as a sign of mourning [2 Sam.13:19]), the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the heavy spirit; that they might be called trees of righteousness (see 60:21. God planted trees, BUT, Satan had a habit of planting trees also), the planting of Yehovah, that He might be glorified. (all is for Yehovah's glory)

they shall raise up the former desolations,
and they shall repair the desolate cities,
the places of silence of many generations. (see 1:7)
5 And foreiners shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of an unknown people shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6 But you all shall be named the Priests of Yehovah (see Ex.19:6): men shall call you the Ministers of our Elohim (ref. to the technical phrase, common in the Law. See Ex.28:35. Num.16:9. Deut.10:8; 17:12, &c.): you all shall eat the riches of the nations, and in their glory shall you all boast yourselves.

therefore in their land they shall possess the double:
everlasting joy shall be to them. (see 44:7)
8 For I Yehovah love justice, I hate robbery for burnt offering (showing that the sacrificial system was in operation at the time when this prophecy was given); and I will make their recompence in truth (see 10:20), and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.(see 44:7)
9 And their seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which Yehovah has blessed.
10 I will greatly rejoice in Yehovah, my soul shall be joyful in my Elohim; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe (some codices read, "and with a robe") of righteousness, as the bridegroom adorns himself (with a turban such as worn by priests), and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth her bud, and as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so Adonai Yehovah will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
