Austin and I first met when I was working in downtown Austin, Texas at the American Institute for Learning (AIL) in 1998. I was the Network Administrator there and he had expressed interest in being my apprentice. It wasn't easy being a one-man Information Technologies department for that entire Texas Charter School, so I was grateful to accept any help I could get.

This bright young lad was full of fun and very outgoing. Yet he loved computers and networks and wanted to learn all he could about them.

Austin was pretty much a fixture at AIL already. He had already received his GED there, but now he wanted a full-fledged high school diploma and was working hard toward that.

When he was in a software class learning graphics, One project idea that Austin came up with was to use the digital camera to take three seperate shots of himself, then combine them all to form one three-headed Austin.
