With those words Jim flew out of the canteen and practically fell through the door of Gina�s office

Jim rushed to the desk at A&E
�DC Carver Sun Hill, June Ackland was bought in after an RTA, can I see her?�
�Are you a relative?� asked the receptionist
�Im her partner.........we had a falling out� Jim said knowing that if June was fine that she would not mind seeing him, but if the news was bad he had to hear it first hand
�Take a seat I will find someone to speak to you�
�DC Carver?� a young nurse asked as she approached Jim
�Yes, how is she, can I see her� Jim asked as tears streaked his face
�Miss Ackland is in resus, we are going to move her to our high dependency unit once we have performed a CT scan, she is holding her own and is stable, but we will know more once the scan results are known�
�How long will it take?�
�We should know more within the next hour or so, come with me I will take you to see her�
Jim took hold of June hand and kissed it softly �Please be ok.......I need you to be ok, I need to put things right between us, I could not cope if you died thinking I did not care for you, I love you so much June..........Please be alright...........I promise I will never leave you again..........please wake up�
Jim smiled at the nurse who was removing the BP cuff from around June�s arm
�All her observations are stable, the doctors are just reviewing the films from the CT, once they have seen them they will decide on which treatments to continue with and what to stop regarding the IV anti-biotics, someone will come and update you�

As the nurse left the room Gina came in
�How is she doing?� Gina asked as she put a hand on Jim�s shoulder
�The doctors are just looking at the results of the CT scan.........they know that she has got a laceration to one of her kidneys, she might have damaged her spleen....they have started her on some anti-biotics and are monitoring her kidney function.....but they don�t know...........I just what her to wake up and tell me that she is ok�
�Im sure she will very soon Jim�
�I want to tell her that I here for her and will make things better, want to heal the rift between us......tell her that I have been an idiot, that I need her in my life�
�Don�t worry, you will be able too very soon�

The nurse came in �look if you don�t keep the noise down you will have to leave�
�He should be the one who leaves he caused this� Jim spat back

�What�s wrong Jim, can�t you deal with your own guilt about June�

Tony left as Jim sat with his head in his hands
�Was that really necessary Jim, don�t you think he is feeling bad enough�

Jim looked up at Gina and smiled �I don�t think I ever stopped loving her, I need her in my life, I just want to tell her how I feel about her, see if she feels the same way�

�I really don�t know....we have been becoming closer, re-built the bridges, revealed secrets to each other�

�I was so angry when I found out, angry that she had not told me, not even when we were together.......but when she told me what happened and why she had to give him away.....all I wanted to do was protect her, make things better, not let anyone hurt her again�

Jim watched as June�s bed disappeared from the ward as Gina appeared

�They are not sure...they did her blood pressure....� he tried to fight the tears�........It was dropping, the CT scan....she is bleeding internally...she might have ruptured her spleen or might have....there might be some bleeding into her brain�
Jim began to sob as Gina hugged him
Gina watched Jim talking with a doctor, he nodded and walked towards Gina
�How is she doing?�
�Her spleen is fine, they found she took an impact which caused her to bleed, they had to do a hysterectomy and repair some of her intestine�
�What about the bleed in her brain?�
�They re scanned her on the way to theatre, they think that happened on impact with the car.......they think....�Jim swallowed hard

�She is going to be fine� Jim smiled �She�s going to be ok�
�That is fantastic�
She has to go to ITU over night just to observe her overnight, she is on a ventilator in recovery, once she is stable in ITU I can see her�

�Don�t know......she was this confident young woman who I saw no chance with....we would flirt with each other but nothing ever happened........everyone around us knew how we felt about each other, Taffy and Viv would tease us.....�Jim laughed �I was sat in the canteen one day, not long after I started and she pinched my cup of tea, then complained that it was too sweet and said that too much sugar would make me fat, she was so right....she knew me so well then , she knows me better than I know myself....thank you for staying ma�am�

Gina laughed �Yeah well life is too short.....before I started at Sun Hill all I ever heard about was this perfect copper and I did not think that anyone could be that squeaky clean...but I was wrong she is one in a million�
