| June walked into the bathroom and suddenly bent over double. Jim! Jim! Aaaaahh, she screamed in pain. Jim rushed upstairs. He had gone downstairs to get the towels from the washing machine and immediately dropped them and rushed upstairs to his wife. By the time Jim got upstairs June was lying unconscious on the bathroom floor. June? June, wake up. Dont do this to me. When he realised she wasnt wakening up, he reached for his mobile phone and called an ambulance. Within 5 mins June was put in an ambulance and taken to St. Hughes. Just save my wife. Never mind the baby. Just save June, Jim shouted as the doctor told him he would have to stay outside. One of the nurses took Jim to the relatives room and got him a coffee but he just ignored it. After what seemed to be hours to Jim, actually only 20 mins, a doctor came into the relatives room to tell Jim what was going on. Hows June? Hows my wife? Jim asked, his eyes red from constant crying. Im very sorry Mr Carver the doctor started. Nooooooo, nooo. Not my June, Jim broke down and fell onto the floor and curled up in a ball. Mr. Carver. Its not your wife. June is fine. Shes just gone for some tests. Unfortunately we couldnt save the baby though. June? Shes fine, Jim asked as he heard what the doctor was telling him. You mean Ive not lost her. He started crying again. I will come and get you when you can see June. Shouldnt be too long. She doesnt know about the baby though. We thought it would be better if it came from you. Thank you doctor. I dont know what I would have done without her. Jim got up from the floor and gave the doctor a hug. She went red and when Jim realised what he had done, he let go. Jim? June asked as she slowly came round from the anaesthetic. Its alright hon, Im here. Youre going to be fine, he reassured her holding her hand. What happened?.... the baby. Jim? Tell me! Jim didnt know what to do. All he could do was try and tell her the truth. Im so sorry. June, you lost the baby, he said calmly. The doctors couldnt save it. No.no June cried. Its all my fault. I knew I was too old from the start. Oh Im sorry, maybe it just wasnt meant to be. It doesnt matter, all that matters is that were together. We dont need children to make us happy. Oh Jim. I know how much you wanted kids and know I cant give you any. Maybe were just not meant to be together. June, stop it. Youre confused. Of course were meant to be together. We always were. Im not letting you go just because youre too old to give me kids. I love you and Im not moving. Whenever you need me, Ill be there. I love you. Oh Jim. I dont know what Ive done to deserve you. I love you too. Jim stood up and gave June a kiss on her forehead and gave her a hug. Well be fine. Just fine, he whispered. 1 week later Are you sure youre ready to go back to work? Jim asked June as they got ready to go to work. Im fine Jim. Its been a week. If I dont do something Ill go crazy if Im stuck in the house. Honest, she said giving him a kiss. What was that for? Jim said surprised. For you being so supportive. I dont think I could have got through this past week without you and I thank you for that. Well as long as youre sure its what you want its fine with me. Id do anything for you. Well you can start by making me a cuppa then, she laughed. Thats my girl. Back to your old self. We dont need anything else. Were happy the way we are. With that he went downstairs and made June a cuppa. While standing in front of the fridge looking for the milk, he suddenly started crying.. |
