"Sarge, your back. How are you? Did you have a nice holiday?" Brandon asked
"I'm fine thanks and I had a lovely holiday. I missed work though "
"You won't be saying that in a couple of hours"
June laughed at Brandon and said, "So what's been happening while I've been away"
"Nothing much"
"You mean there's no gossip"
"No I don't think so. Ah wait a minute, yes there is, Jim" Brandon said
"Jim, what about him?" June said eagerly
"He's started seeing Megan"
"Megan Price from the canteen staff"
"Yes"
"How long has that been going on?" June said, sounding upset.
"I'm not sure, about two weeks I think. They seem quite happy"
"Good I'm glad, Jim deserves some happiness"
"Yes well, I must get back to work, I'll see you later" Brandon said
"Yes see you" June replied. She went and stood by the office window and looked out, there were tears in her eyes. She was thinking about Jim, she knew she shouldn't but she couldn't help herself. After about five minutes she thought "Come on June pull yourself together, she wiped away her tears and then left the office. As she walked down the corridor she could see Megan talking to Jim, they both looked happy which made her feel jealous. June walked down the corridor and said "Morning" and then walked off towards CAD to see Matt. She didn't stop to talk to them because she could feel all this jealousy building up inside her. She knew that if she had stopped to talk to them, Jim would have introduced her to Megan as his new girlfriend, and this would have upset her. Jim thought it was a bit strange that June hadn't stopped to talk to him, but he just put it down to her being busy. For the rest of the day June tried to avoid Jim because she didn't know what to say to him and she did this successfully because he was busy in court all day.
It was the end of a long day and Jim had gone to CSU to meet Jim.
June came out of her little office in CSU and looked over at the Jim's desk and she could see her waiting and as she was about to walk down the corridor Jim walked up to Megan and they walked off towards the stairs. June decided she would wait until he had left so that there was no chance of her bumping into him.
Jim and Megan left the station and went to Jim's car; they had arranged to go out for a meal at a nearby restaurant. They got into the car and drove off. June watched them drive off and wished it were her with him and not Megan; she then went to her car. Jim and Megan arrive at the restaurant only to find that their table has been double booked so they decide to go back to Jim's and have something to eat, but first they have to go shopping, so Jim drives to the nearest supermarket. "Come on then, I'm starving" Jim said taking hold of Megan's hand. As they were walking in, June was at the checkout waiting to be served. She had decided that she needed cheering up, so she popped into the supermarket to buy a tub of chocolate chip ice cream. As she was paying for the ice cream she could hear this loud laugh, which sounded familiar, she looked behind her and saw Jim and Megan walking hand in hand. She could feel all this jealousy build up inside her once again and she couldn't control it. Somehow seeing them out together was worse than seeing them together at work. She quickly paid the woman at the checkout and ran out of the shop to her car. Jim had seen her running and thought that maybe he had done something to upset her because since she had come back off holiday she had avoided him. He had no idea that it was his relationship with Megan that was upsetting her.
Outside the shop June got into her car and began to cry, she turned on the engine and drove off.
The next morning Jim arrived at work and saw June waiting for Robbie to let her in, he walked up to her and said "June, I need to talk to you "
"Why, is something wrong" she said, trying to avoid eye contact with him.
"I'm not sure. Look at me June" he said raising his voice.
June turned to face him. "What's the matter June, have I done something to hurt you?"
"No, it's just��" June said, but as she was about to continue, someone shouted Jim. June turned around and she could see Megan. "Jim are we still on for tonight" Megan said. It was all too much for June; she could feel her eyes filling up, so she ran off down the corridor.
"June" Jim shouted, but she didn't stop she just kept on running.
"What's wrong with her" Megan said
"I'm not sure" he replied. He was beginning to think that it was something to do with his relationship with Megan but he wasn't a hundred percent sure, so he said nothing to Megan. He didn't like seeing June upset because truthfully he loved her, there were many of times when he had thought of telling her how he felt but he was scared of rejection.
"Perhaps I should go and see if she's alright," Megan said
"No, she'll be alright, I check on her later" he replied
"Ok, I'll see you later then" she said. She gave him a kiss and then walked down the corridor. Once she was out of site, Jim ran down the corridor to try to find June. "Des have you seen Sgt Ackland" he said
"Yes, he said she was going for some fresh air" Des said
"Thanks" he said. Jim went up to CSU and got on with his work.
About an hour later June returned to the station and Billy saw her walking past CSU. He came out of the CSU and was just about to go and talk to her when Brandon shouted "Jim you are needed here, Mr Davies from the protection unit is on the phone"
"Ok" Jim said and went back to CSU to the phone.
Meanwhile June was sitting in the canteen alone and Megan walks over. "Hiya, have you seen Jim? Megan asked
"No I haven't" June snapped
"Alright I was only asking. What is the matter with you? Are you jealous of me and Jim or something"
"Of course not" she snapped, "I'm a happily single thanks"
"So... I think you are jealous of the fact that Jim is with me" Megan shouted. June didn't say anything she just went red. "I thought so" she said "Why else would you try and avoid Jim all the time"
"Jim is a good man," June said"I know, I'm lucky," Megan replied. June could feel the tears in her eyes. They continued to argue, but then Jim walked in, he was looking for June. "What's going on?" he asked
"Why don't you ask her?" Megan said
"June" he said. June began to cry and ran down the corridor again. "June!" Jim shouted "Megan what is going on"
"It's June, she's jealous of me and you"
"Don't be ridiculous," he snapped, "Why would she be jealous"
"She has feelings for you that's why" she said. Jim didn't say anything, I think he was a bit shocked, he had no idea that June had feelings for him, if he had known he would have told her weeks ago how he felt. "It's alright though" she said, "I told her you were mine"
"You did what" he shouted, "You had no right"
"What do you mean, we are seeing each other aren't we," she smiled. Jim once again said nothing. "Jim" she said, "Jim, you have feelings for June too don't you," she said, sounding upset
"Yes" he replied quietly "I know I shouldn't because she is my boss and everything but I can't help it"
"What about me" Megan cried
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you," he whispered
"So that's' it then, it's over"
"Yes" he replied
Megan left the office crying. Jim went to find June. He searched everywhere but he could not find her. He went to CAD and Matt told him she had gone out for a walk because she was feeling ill, so he went back to CSU and tried to ring her mobile but he kept getting the answer machine. For the rest of the day he got on with his work and tried to forget about his problems with June.
The next day June returned to work and tried to avoid, Jim. She was finding this very difficult as they worked together so she made sure she was always doing something that he could not interrupt. She had plenty to do anyway because there was one prisoner who was demanding attention all of the time. This particular Prisoner was aggressive and scared June a little but it was her job to deal with him so that is what she did. Usually if a prisoner was aggressive towards her, she would tell Brandon or Jim and one of them would deal with it but under the circumstances, she decided not to say anything to Jim and Brandon was in court. Most of the morning, Jim was busy chasing up a lead so he wrote a little note for June and left it on her office table. The note said "Please wait for me at the end of the shift, I need to talk to you" When June found the note she read it and then put it in her top draw. She felt a bit at ease now knowing that Jim would be to busy to come and speak to her, so she wouldn't have to worry about bumping into him.
Later that day June decided to do some paper work as CSU was deserted because of some obbo. As she was sitting by her desk, she could see this large shadow come over her. At first, she thought it was Jim so she turned around. It wasn't Jim, it was Roger Bennett the aggressive he had been released on bail earlier in the day and now he had dressed up as a police officer and somehow got into the station, he stood there holding a gun." Get over here" he shouted. She walked towards him and he grabbed her neck. He took her down into reception. Robbie saw him and pressed the security button.
"All stay where you are all I will kill her," he said
"Please Mr Bennett lets talk about this" June said"There's nothing to talk about" he said squeezing June's neck harder
"Please Roger, let me go, your hurting me" June cried
Des and Reg were walking down the corridor, they could here screaming, and when they looked up, they could see Mr Bennett with a gun pointing at June's head. "Go and get the DI Reg before he sees us" Des said
"Ok" Reg said. He started to run up the corridor and then Des shouted "Oh and get Jim Carver "
"Why" Reg asked,
"Just do it?" he said. Minty ran up the corridor to get help.
Des tried to stay out of site and he listened to what was happening.
"Mr Bennett what do you want" Robbie asked
"A car" he replied,
"Here you can have mine. Now let Sgt Ackland go," Robbie said. She offered her car because she knew that it wouldn't start.
"No I can't let her go. She's coming with me, come on"
"Ah" June cried, "You're hurting me. Robbie" she shouted. At this moment, she wished that Jim would come and help her.
Mr Bennett took June out into the car park to the car. Once he had gone Des came running down, "Are you alright"
"Yes I'm fine, but Sgt Ackland isn't" Robbie said
"Don't worry Reg has gone to get help and he has gone to tell Jim what has happened"
"Good, hopefully the DI will catch him"
"Robbie why did you give him your car keys" Des asked
"Because he was hurting Sgt Ackland and I know that the car won't start. Dave my friend said he will have a look at it tomorrow when he comes back from Devon."
"Oh I see, nice one"
Meanwhile Reg went and got the DI and he ran to the canteen looking for Jim.
"Jim, I've been looking for you everywhere"
"Is something wrong"
"You could say that, Mr Bennett has a gun"
"What" Tony said
"He's taken Sgt Ackland hostage"
"What!" Jim shouted
"He was aggressive towards her earlier apparently but she seemed to deal with it" Reg said
"Why didn't she tell me"
"I don't know"
"Well where are they and is she alright" Jim said sounding worried
"How would you feel if you had a gun pointing at your head"
"Where are they" Tony said
"They are by reception"
Jim rushed off towards reception with Tony and Reg following. When he got there he saw Robbie "Where are they?" he said
"Outside heading for my car" she replied
"What!" he shouted and before Robbie could explain about the car, he had gone. Everyone was shocked at how he had reacted. They all started talking about whether there was something going on between him and June until Tony interrupted and told them not to gossip and to get back to work.
Meanwhile Jim had run outside and looked for Robbie's car. He found the car and then saw Mr Bennet and June.
"June!" he shouted
"Jim!" she cried
"Stay away or I will kill her" Roger said
"Come on Mr Bennett give me the gun" Jim said slowly walking towards him
"I mean it, come any closer and I will kill her"
"Ok, ok" Jim said
Roger pushed June against the car
"Ah" June cried
"June!" Jim shouted. He felt hopeless, he just had to stand there and watch someone frighten and hurt the person he loved.
"Please Mr Bennett, let Sgt Ackland go"
"No"
"Look let her go and take me instead" Jim said
"Oh Jim" June cried looking at him
"No sorry PC Carver, I don't want you." Roger said, "Now get in the car,�� he said to June
As Roger was about to open the door for June to get in, a police car arrived, this frightened Roger. He grabbed June and set the gun ready to shoot. He put it to her head and said "you've got five seconds to get your lot away from me otherwise I will shoot"
The policemen and Jack did nothing and just stayed by their cars.
"Right well you've had your chance, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Roger reached one, Jim ran towards him and shouted "NO!" The shear force of Jim was enough to push Roger over. As they both fell to the fall, the gun went off, but nobody got hurt. Jack ran over to Roger and arrested him.
Jim got up off the floor and went over to June who was shaking like a leaf. "Are you alright?" he said
"Yes" she replied and then all of a sudden she began to cry and fell into his arms. She held him tightly. "You are safe now," Jim whispered
"Thank you Jim, you saved my life" June said crying
"There's no need to thank me. Come on lets go inside"
He took her to an interview room. "Sit down" he said closing the door and placing the in-use light on.
"I must get back to work. There's lots to do" June said
"No June, you are in no fit state to work. You are still in shock"
"But"
"But nothing, its my orders and anyway I need to talk to you"
"Yes" she said quietly
"June" he said "I thought I was going to lose you" Jim said sounding upset
"Oh Jim" June said with tears coming down her cheeks
" I love you June," he said, "I know I shouldn't, but I do""I love you too," she whispered. She stood up and hugged him. They gazed into each other's eyes lovingly and then Jim kissed June. She did not pull away but then she whispered, "We shouldn't be doing this Jim"
"I know but I can't help it" he said reaching down and kissed her passionately. June pulled away this time and said "I can't Jim, I want to but I can't" She walked to the door. "June" Jim said. She turned to face him and she had tears running down her face. "June, don't go, lets just talk" he said
"No I can't. The longer I stay here, the more I will want to be with you and that is wrong, I am your boss"
"I now that but I can't stop thinking about you"
"Please Jim. If you love me you will just forget what happened and we'll just be friends"
"Friends" Jim laughed, "We are friends but I want to be more than just friends" he said
"I know you do, but it's not possible, I'm sorry Jim. I better go, its busy out there," she said and then she opened the door and walked off towards the toilets. Jim was left heart broken, he knew she loved him but she could not be with him and this just made it worse.
June walked into the ladies, went into a cubicle, and began to cry. She could not stop thinking about Jim. When she was with him, she felt happy and loved. After a while, she came out of the cubicle and went to the mirror to dry her eyes. As she was doing this Robbie walked in. " Hiya Sarge, how are you" she asked
" I am fine thanks" she said in a shaking voice and then she said "No I'm not" as she began to cry again. Robbie put her arm around her "Perhaps you should go home, your probably still in shock" she said
"No" June said sharply because the last thing she wanted to do was to go home and be on her own.
"Well you need to take it easy then" Robbie said
"Look I'm fine" June said
"You are not fine because you are upset. Perhaps you should see a councillor"
"I don't need to see a councillor, its not the hostage situation that has upset me" June cried
"What is it then?"
"Its Jim" June said
"Jim Carver? What's he done to you, I thought you were friends"
"We are and that's the problem," June replied
"I don't understand" Robbie said
"I love him Robbie" June said quietly
"You what" she shouted "But Jim is seeing Megan and you are his boss"
"I know" June cried "But I can't help it. Every time I am near him I want to reach out and touch him and hug him"
"Oh Sarge" Robbie said
"I don't know what to do Robbie. I really do love Jim but I am his boss and starting a relationship with him could mean one of us is transferred and I couldn't stand that"
"How does Jim feel"?
" He told me he loved me" she replied
"Look June, I can't tell you what to do, but if it was me I would follow my heart, stuff the police regulations you can't help who you fall in love with" Robbie said and then she left, leaving June ponder over her feelings.
Robbie walked up the corridor to CSU where she found Jim. "Jim" Robbie said
"Yes" he replied
"I have just seen Sgt Ackland in tears"
"Where" he said eagerly
"She's told me everything Jim" Robbie smiled
"Everything" Jim replied
"Yes, she said that she loves you but she is frightened about her job"
"Oh" he said sounding surprised that June had told her.
"Go and see her Jim" Robbie said
"She doesn't want to see me"
"Just go and see her, she's really upset"
"Where is she?" he said
"In the toilets"
"Ok thanks Robbie and I would appreciate if you could keep this to yourself"
"Yes of course, now go. I'll cover for you"
"Thanks" Jim said as he left CSU.
Jim walked to the toilets and stood outside them. He could hear June crying and it made him feel terrible, because he thought it was all his fault. He stood outside the ladies for a while hoping June would come out, but she didn't, so he decided to go in. He walked in and saw June sitting on the fall. "June" he said
"Jim, what are you doing you can't come in here" June said looking surprised
"Yes I can if I think someone needs me" he replied
He walked over towards her and held out his hand to help her up. She got up and looked at him. "You should go,�� she said
"If that's what you want" he said
"Yes"
"Ok" he said and he gave her a kiss on her cheek. "Bye" he said. He walked to the door and then stopped and looked back with tears in his eyes. He then opened the door and went back to CSU.
June went to the office, collected her things, and then left the station. Jim watched her drive off wondering whether she would talk to him again.
At the end of his shift, Jim went out for a drink with the people from work, but he felt a bit awkward because Megan was there. After about an hour he decided to go home.
Later that night Jim was sitting watching TV when there was a knock on the door, he got up and answered it. "June" he said looking amazed to see her. "I didn't expect you, come in" June went into the lounge. "Is something wrong?" he said, looking worried
"No, I just wanted to be with you" she replied, "Hold me" she said "Please"
Jim walked towards her and hugged her. "Are you sure you want me to do this" he said
"Yes" she said "I have spent all day trying to forget about you and think about work, but I can't" she said
June looked up at Jim and kissed him, he didn't pull away, in fact he kissed her back.
"Jim" June said, "Do you love me?"
"Yes" he replied, "How about you, do you love me?"
"Yes I do, I have tried not to but I can't help it. Perhaps I should��" she said, and before she could say anymore, Jim kissed her "Don't" he said as they sat down on the sofa.
For the rest of the night they sat together in each other's arms, talking to each other. June didn't know what she was going to do about the future but as far as she was concerned, Jim was the man who made her laugh and the man she wanted to be with.
