�Polly I need you to help me� June said

?Find out where Ben is and then I want you to help me to get out of this hospital bed�
�June you are not well enough to move�
�Polly I am begging you, I need to speak to Ben, he is the only one who can clear Jim�
�Ok �
�Don�t mention this at the station�
�I am not likely to do that am I�
�Polly I am sorry I have to ask you to do this but the thought of Jim in a cell�
�I know, I will see you tomorrow�
�Thank you Pol, give my love to Jim�
Polly left and June stared at the ceiling, time was running out she thought. She thought of Jim all alone in a cell and tears filled her eyes, she had to get him out of there.
The following day Polly returned to the hospital
�Did you find out anything?� June asked eagerly
�Yep Ben is still at Marie�s he�s being looked after by his Auntie�
�Ok, come on then� June said as she pushed herself off the bed �Ow�
�June are you alright?� Polly said as she rushed to help her
�I will be, how�s Jim?�
�He�s not to good, he is depressed, not eating speaking�
�Oh� she cried
�Look June why don�t I deal with this, you shouldn�t be leaving the hospital�
�Look I haven�t got dressed for nothing, I will be fine with your help�
�June it was only yesterday that they took all the tubes away�
�Polly I am going to do this with or without your help so what�s it going to be?�
�Ok, ok I will help you come on�
June and Polly slowly walked down the corridor. �Do the doctors know about this June?� Polly asked
�What do you think Pol�
�I thought not�
�Come lets get out of here before I am stopped�
June eventually reached Polly�s car and they drove off. About 20 minutes later they arrived at Jim and Marie�s. June with the help of Polly walked to the door and rang the doorbell. Ben answered the door
�Hello Ben� June smiled �Do you remember me?�
�Sgt Ackland what are you doing here and where�s my mum and dad and where�s Jim�
�Is your Auntie in?� Polly asked
�Yes�
�Can we come in Ben?� June said
Ben moved to one side and let Polly and June in
�Oh hello� Julie smiled
�Sgt Ackland this is my auntie Julie� Ben said
�Sgt Ackland? Aren�t you the�
�Yes I am the one Marie hates�
�Shouldn�t you be in hospital?� Julie asked looking concerned
�Yes but I needed to speak to Ben�
�Is this about being an alibi for Jim?�
�Yes�
�I have tried to persuade him but he is scared� Julie replied
�You have but I thought you would have wanted him to stay quiet�
�No I may be Marie�s sister but I don�t agree with what she�s done Sgt Ackland�

�Ok�
�So is it alright if I have a word with Ben?�
�Yes of course�
�Go in take a seat� Julie smiled �Would you like a cup of tea?�
�That would be lovely thanks�
June and Polly sat down opposite Ben, June was in serious pain but she tried to hide it.
�Ben I know you are frightened I think I would be if I was in your shoes but Jim is scared too�
�No Jim never gets scared� Ben laughed
�Is that what he told you?�she smiled
�Yes�
�You like Jim don�t you?�
�Yes he is like a father to me, he treats me like an adult and not a child�
�Look Ben you know what your mother has done don�t you?�
�She stabbed you�
�Yes but I am not angry with her I just want to help Jim. Now your mother is claiming that Jim wasn�t at the house on Wednesday last week, is that true�
Ben said nothing
�Please Ben� Polly continued �It is important�
�Ben Jim is in a cell at the moment, he is scared about what is going to happen to him, he needs your help�
�What will happen to him if I don�t say anything?� Ben asked
�Jim will be charged and sentenced�
�Like my mum�
�Yes�
�But he hasn�t done anything, how can they send him away�
�He can�t prove he wasn�t involved� Polly added
�He loves you like you were his own you know� June smiled
�He�s a lovely man� Julie chipped in as she brought the tea in and then sat next to Ben
�What is going to happen to me?� Ben cried
Julie placed her arm around him �Well what would you like to happen?�
�I want to stay with auntie Julie�
�How do you feel about that?� Polly asked
�I would love to have him, we have always been close�
�Well if that�s what you both want then I am sure the authorities will allow it�
�If Jim gets out would I still see him�
�I am sure you would� June smiled �So Ben was Jim here on that Wednesday night�
��?It�s alright Ben, I will look after you� Julie assured him
�Yes, Jim was here. My mum went out and we phoned for a pizza and he played on my play station with me�
�Do you remember how Jim paid for the pizza� June asked
�By credit card I think, he had no cash�
�Brilliant, Ben you have been a great help�
�What Pizza company was it?�
Ben handed June a leaflet.
�Ben you have been brilliant so far but will you do me one more favour, will you go down the station with your auntie and make a statement�
�Will you be there?�
��?Well I wasn�t�
�Ben June isn�t well she needs to get back to the hospital� Julie said
� Are you in pain?� Ben asked
�A bit�
�Then why did you leave hospital?�
�Because I needed to help Jim�
�Oh right�
�Look Ben would you like me to come with you?� June asked
�June� Polly said
�Yes� Ben smiled
�Ok I�ll come�
�June� Polly said again
�Polly I am alright really�
June, Polly, Julie and Ben left and headed for the station, on the way June had asked Polly to stop at the Pizza place. June had gone in and looked through their records, she found Jim�s payment and the time, great she thought. She took the books and they drove to the station. By now June�s pain was getting worse but she was determined to finish this.
They all got out of the car and went into the station
�Frank� June called
�What the hell, June what are you doing here?� he replied as he rushed over to help her
�To give you this� she smiled as she handed the books over
�What�s this?�
�On the night of the fire Jim was at home with Ben, Marie had gone out and Jim phoned for a pizza, he paid by credit card it�s all in there, times and everything� June said as she sat down suddenly
�Are you alright?� Polly said looking concerned
�Just a little pain, I�ll be fine�
�June why aren�t you in hospital?� Frank asked
�I had to prove Jim was innocent�
�I could have done this�
�You tried but failed Frank, I knew that I could persuade Ben to tell me the truth, he knows me�
�But you are not well June, you have just had a major operation, you were stabbed for god sake�
�Yeah well the sooner you sort this mess out the sooner I can get back to the hospital� she smiled
�You are one stubborn woman June Ackland�
�Just get a statement off Ben Frank and let Jim go�
�He will go mad If he finds out about this June� Frank said
�I don�t care�
As they continued to talk Jack and Adam walked towards them
�June� Jack said �What on earth are you doing here, you look so pale?�
�Thanks�
�Superwoman here has just escaped hospital to collect evidence to release Jim� Frank said
�Oh I should have guest, right well have you finished here� Jack replied
�Not until Jim is released�
�June you need to go back to the hospital, you are looking quite weak� Adam said
�I will as soon as Jim is released�
�Ok, Sgt Smith, release Jim Carver please�
Smithy went and unlocked Jim�s cell and told him he was free to go. Jim couldn�t believe it he walked out of the cell, he looked awful, unshaven and his eyes looked red raw through crying. He saw Ben first and Ben ran to him. He hugged him tightly and then Jim looked up and saw June. He couldn�t believe his eye�s, he was delighted but angry at the same time.
�June� he whispered
�Sgt Ackland came to see me� Ben smiled �She is a nice lady I don�t know why mum did those horrible things to her�
�Oh son your mother has mental problems, don�t you worry about her, she will be helped with her problems�
�Ok�
�Right Ben are you ready� Frank asked
�Yep. Jim will you visit me sometimes, I am going to live with Auntie Julie�
�Of course I will son� Jim replied with tears in his eyes �You look after yourself�
Jim hugged Ben and then Ben followed Frank. Jim walked up to June
�June what are you doing here?�
�I had to help you� June cried
�You should be in hospital, what if something happened to you while you were here�
�Jim aren�t you happy to see me?�
�Of course I just don�t want to lose you� he sobbed �What happened June, how have they released me?� he continued as he hugged her
�June spoke to Ben and he is making a statement to say you were with him at the time of the fire and she also found evidence at the pizza place� Adam began �On the night in question it appears you ordered a pizza using your credit card and the records show the time so you are in the clear�
�Oh June� he sobbed
�You are one lucky man Jim, after everything you have done to her, she still does this for you� Jack smiled
�I know, thank you June�
�Well I couldn�t leave you in that cell, I knew you hadn�t done anything�
�We all did� Adam added �but we needed evidence�
Jim hugged June tightly and then kissed her
�Right June I am taking you back to the hospital and I don�t want to here that you have escaped again, ok� Jack laughed
�Ok� June agreed
Jack drove Jim and June back to the hospital. The doctors were pleased to see her they had been extremely worried. June settled back into her room with Jim by her side and Jack returned to the station. Jim and June talked for hours before June fell asleep.
June still insisted they took their relationship slowly and she had decided that once they discharged her from hospital she was going to stay with her sister for a few weeks.
Jim wasn�t too pleased about her decision as it meant he wouldn�t see her for a few weeks but they had both eventually agreed it was what was best for June. Jim told June he would visit her every weekend and she said that that would be lovely.
