"Jim's acting strange today isn't he" Cathy said
"Yes, he looks as if he has something on his mind" Brandon replied
"Yes, oh well, I am sure he'll tell us soon, what ever it is"
Cathy picked up some paperwork off the top and said "We better get on with this lot"
"I suppose" Brandon sighed
Meanwhile Jim knocked on the office door. "Hiya sir, can I have a word"
"Will it take long Jim, I am due in a meeting in five minutes"
"No, it won't take long"
"Ok, then, take a seat"
"Thank you" Jim said as he pulled the chair out to sit on
"Well" Jack said
"I have been offered a job in Australia sir and I have decided to take it"
"Oh yes" Jack said looking shocked
"Yes I applied for it, but I didn't think I would have a chance, but the offer came in the post last week"
"So you have thought about it then"
"Yes and I think it is something I need to do. I have tried to speak to the super but I felt it would be easier to tell you "
"Well thank you, when are you going?"
"They want me out there in 3 days time. I know it means I will need to break my contract but it is important. I was actually hoping I could finish today though"
"Today! That is short notice Jim"
"I know but I don't want anybody finding out about it, I don't want a fuss"
"Oh I see, is that everyone or are you talking about one certain individual," Jack said
I don't know what you mean" Jim said looking shocked
"June Ackland"
"Yes"
"She will be upset when she finds out"
"I know, and that's why I don't want anybody to know" Jim said
"Very well, I shall find cover for you immediately, but only if you are sure about this Jim"
"I am sir, Thank you sir, it's been great working with you"
'And you, I can't believe you are going to do this, I have known you for years Jim'
'I know but I really need to do this'
"Well if you say so. You will be missed Jim and not just by me, June will be beside herself, don't you think you should tell her" Jack said
'No, this is for the best. We were over weeks ago she probably wouldn't care anyway'
'You know that's not true' Jack snapped
'Do I, she finished it remember'
'Oh come on Jim'
'No sorry Jack I have to do this'
'Ok well good luck' Jack said as he shock Jims hand
Jim got up and went back to CSU.
"Jim" Cathy shouted "We need you in interview room one, its Polly"
"Ok" Jim said as he walked towards the interview room. "Right, what's the problem"
"Polly is suffering terrible pains in her side, I think it is her appendix"
"Right Cathy you go and tell Inspector Gold and I will take her to hospital"
"Right" Cathy said
"Brandon look after everything here until June gets back"
"Me" Brandon said looking surprised "Ok"
Jim and Polly went off to the hospital.
Meanwhile Tony had come to speak to Jack after his meeting.
"Hello sir, can I come in"
"Yes, please sit down, is it something important" Jack said
"Well it's about Polly, Jim's taken her to hospital, a possible appendix'
'I see'
'Well that was it' Tony said
'Tony, can I ask you something?' Jack asked
'Go ahead'
'How do you think Jim and June have been getting on since they split up?'
'Alright I think, although you an tell they still have feelings for each other. I must admit when they first got together I thought June was making a big mistake but then I realised they were meant to be together, shame it didn't last really' Tony said 'Sir why do you ask?'
'Jim's leaving'
"Jim!" Tony shouted
"Yes" Jack said "I know it was a shock to me too, he came in earlier and told me"
"Where's he going?"
"Australia"
"Australia god that is the other side of the world. Have you tried to change his mind" Tony said
"There's no point"
"Well I am shocked, I never thought Jim would leave Sunhill"
"No I didn't either"
"Does everyone know?" Tony asked
"No, he doesn't want anyone to know, not even June"
"Oh that's terrible, June will be really upset"
"Well Jim has asked me not to tell the others so I won't and I would appreciate it if you didn't either, it's his choice Tony"
"Of course. When is he leaving"? Tony asked
"Today"
"Today! That's quick" Tony said looking shocked
"I know but that's what he wants"
"You will keep his job open for him until he actually gets on that plane won't you"
"Yes"
"Ok, right well I'd better get back"
"Thanks for letting me know about Polly"
"Ok"
Tony left the office and went back to the canteen.
The day went on and Jim came back from the hospital. Polly was admitted over night. It came to the end of the shift, Jim went and collected his things and knocked on the office door.
"Right I am off now Jack, take care of your self and look after June for me"
"You could do that yourself Jim, it's still not too late"
'No I must go'
'Ok, you take care too'
Jim walked down the corridor slowly, trying to take in everything for one last time. He saw everyone in the canteen and he popped his head in and said "Goodbye, everyone, take care" and then he went to the front desk to leave his locker keys.
As Jim tried to find his keys Tony came running over
"Oh Jim mate I am glad I haven't missed you, I know Jack wasn't suppose to say anything but he told me"
"Oh, it's alright"
"Well good luck and take care" Tony said as he hugged him "We'll miss you"
"And you"
"Don't you think you should tell June, Jim"?
"I don't know how to. I am afraid Tony, if I tell her I will probably end up crying or something"
"Yes but at least she wouldn't find out off someone else"
"I know but this is best"
"How have you not managed to say anything to her today" Tony said
"Well she wasn't working today she was in court all day so."
"Oh Jim that makes it worse, you haven't even seen her"
"I know but its for the best and she will see that in the end and anyway she finished with me" Jim said sounding upset "Look, I have written her this letter, will you give it to her tomorrow" Jim said giving him the letter.
"Of course I will"
"Don't give it to her until after 12 pm because then I will be on my way to the airport"
"Ok"
"Thanks Tony, tell her I love her"
"I will, bye"
"Bye mate take care" Jim said as he placed his keys on the counter and walked out.
Jim walked outside and went to his car, he looked up at the station and said "Bye" He got into his car and drove off.
The next day - 11:30am
Tony was sitting in the canteen drinking coffee when June walked in.
"Hi June" Tony said and he looked at her watch
"You haven't seen Jim have you"
"Umm! June"
"Yes"
"Come and sit down a minute, I have something to tell you"
"Nothings happened to Jim has it" June said looking worried
"Umm, not exactly"
"What do you mean"?
"Well, Jim has left"
"Left?" June said looking puzzled
"Yes, he was offered a new job in Australia and he said he couldn't face working with you anymore, it was breaking his heart""
"Australia, No! He wouldn't without telling me"
"He didn't tell anyone just Jack who told me"
"Jim's gone to Australia"
"Yes, he told me to tell you he was sorry he didn't tell you but he didn't know how too"
June began to cry
"He also said to tell you that he loved you"
"He loves me, if he loves me then why has he left"
"He said it was for the best in the long run because he didn't want to hurt you"
"Hurt me? What does he think he is doing now. Oh this is all my fault, I hurt him and now he's gone" June sobbed "I do love him, I do"
"Look he gave me this to give to you" Tony said as he handed over the letter
"Thank you" June said. She opened the letter and began to read it. As she read the letter, tears flowed down her cheeks. Then all of a sudden she said "Tony do you know which airport he's going to"
"Heathrow I think, why?"
"Because, I have to stop him I can't let him go," June cried
"Look I'll drive you"
"Thanks"
Both June and Tony ran out of the canteen and headed for the car park.
"June what's wrong, why are you crying?" Debbie asked
"Oh nothing, ask Brandon to hold the fort in CSU for a couple of hours and could you get some cover for Tony, he's is coming with me"
"Where you going?"
"Just do it"
"Ok" Debbie said
June and Tony got into the car and drove off.
Back at sunhill, Debbie walked up to CSU. "Brandon, could you hold the fort up here and find cover for Tony please, both he and June have gone out"
"Why?"
"I don't know, they were in a rush"
"Oh, well it must have been important"
"Yes"
A couple of hours went bye and eventually June and Tony arrived at the airport. "Well good luck, I'll stay here"
"Thanks" June said
June ran into the airport and looked on the board, it read flight to Australia, boarding now at terminal two. June ran around looking for the correct terminal and eventually found it and then she saw Jim.
"Jim!" June cried
Jim turned around in amazement, "June what are you doing here?"
"Don't go Jim" June begged
"I have too"
"No you don't, just say you have changed you mind"
"There's nothing left for me to stay for June"
"Yes there is"
Everyone in the airport was looking at them
"What? I can't even have the one thing I love, I am just causing you more problems"
"Jim, stay for me"
"Look in a couple of weeks, you would have forgotten about me and you will be getting on with your life"
"I won't forget you, I'll never forget you Jim, I have always thought about you"
"Look, I've got to go, take care June"
"No! Jim!" she cried everyone stared at her. Jim gave in his passport.
"Jim, I love you, please don��t go" tears flowed down her cheeks.
He looked back at her and saw her crying.
"I love you too, but this is for the best"
"No its not" June ran over to him and hugged him. Jim held her tight.
"Oh I knew this would happen, that's why I didn't tell you"
"Jim please" she looked up at him and he gave into temptation, he kissed her. He had wanted to do that for so long.
"Mr Carver, we are waiting for you to board the plane please" one of the staff said
June looked at Jim and Jim looked at the tickets for Australia.
"I'm not going" Jim said to the woman at the desk
"I've changed my mind, I'd like my bags removed from the plane please," he said.
He then looked at June and said, "I love you"
"I love you too'
He leaned down and they kissed passionately, and everyone around them started clapping.
They eventually broke apart and Jim held June's hand and they walked towards the entrance.
