Part One
�I�ll see you Sunday� she said as she ran her hand down his cheek
�I�ll miss you, shall I ring you later?�
�Yeah that would be good, I�m going to miss you too�
They kissed passionately as a horn blasted
�Will you pack that in, we want to get going� Gina shouted from the window of the minibus
Jim laughed as he kissed June �Go on get going, the natives are getting restless, I love you�
�I love you too babes� June walked towards the minibus and got in �Sorry Guys�
�Anyone would think that it was you and Jim that were about to get married rather than Honey� said Sam
�Leave her alone, If Gary and I are half as happy as Jim and June then I will be an extremely lucky girl�
�If you two are half as soppy as that pair we will all need sick bags� laughed Sheelagh
�I can�t help it if Im going to miss my husband�
�Don�t worry� said Eva �The novelty will wear off at some point , give it a few more weeks�
�Never, I thought my life was perfect when I had the twins but when Jim proposed it was the icing on the cake�
�How long has it been? Six months?�asked Sam
�5 months and next week the twins turn 2, Jim has bought them little bikes for their birthday as he wants to teach them how to ride�
�Give them a chance their only two' smiled Gina
�I know but he is so excited�
�At least they have got respectable married parents now�
�Thanks a lot Gina, I didn�t realise that it was a pick on me session, where are we going anyway?�
�We are heading to Bournemouth� Gina replied
Sheelagh laughed �I take it you have not spoken to the lads at any point?�
�No why?�
�Because the lads are heading to Bournemouth too�
�Oh great� said Kerry as she turned to Gina and smiled
�What took you so long, we have been sat here for half an hour like a right bunch of muppets waiting for you� said Tony as Jim got into the drivers seat of the minibus
�Sorry Guys had to drop the twins off at Pol�s, then take June to meet the girls, Then I found Imogen�s teddy and Tegan�s dummy on the back seat so had to take them back round to Pol�s other wise the girls would have been unable to go to sleep later without them�
�You are well and truly under the thumb, the problem of having three woman in the house�
�You�d know about being under the thumb Des, you were just on the phone to your wife�
�Actually Reggie Babe, Shee rang to say that the girls are heading in the same direction as us�
�Oh great� exclaimed Smithy �I told you we should have spoken with Kerry�
�I don�t mind� Gary commented with a large grin across his face
�Oi soft lad, don�t get any ideas about chasing after Honey, this is your stag do, we don�t want to bump into them and have a repeat performance of Jim�s do we�
�I keep hearing that something happened, I left early coz we were going on holiday the next morning� Gary asked, he had been trying to find out what happened for the past few weeks as his stag night got closer
�You were the lucky one� said Des �You missed what I saw�
�We all saw them on the dance floor in that club, what did we miss?� Asked Tony
�Yeah you gave us all a shock when we saw you getting friendly with a woman on the dance floor�
�Nick I was dancing with my wife you prat�
�But we didn�t know that at the time did we, we did not know that you had arranged to meet June in the club�
�But Tone you missed what I saw�
�Des you promised�
�Why what happened Jim, what is the big deal� Tony continued
�We should be there in two hours tops� Jim was trying to change the conversation
�Sorry Jim� Des said unconvincingly �They know something happened, Im obliged to tell them...I went to the bogs and there was noises coming from one of the cubicles, I thought nothing of it and went for a slash, I went to leave when I noticed Jim and the sarge coming out of the cubicle�

�Nothing happened Smithy, look can we drop this now�
�I don�t thing so Jim� continued Des �You were doing your flies up�
�Come on Jim dish the dirt�
�Nick, I�m not telling you anything� Jim said sharply and looked at Des in the rear view mirror and noticed Des was about to say something �And you can shut your bloody mouth Tavnier�
Gina, Sheelagh, Eva, Sam, Kerry, Honey, June and Yvonne were sat in wine bar getting slowly drunk
�My hen night� said Eva �I got so steaming drunk I fell over and broke my ankle�
�I can�t remember my hen night, then again I can�t remember my marriage� Kerry laughed
�What happened?� asked Yvonne as the others were howling with laughter
�I married a bloke who ,like Jim and Des was in love with a sergeant at sun hill �Kerry said choking back a laugh
�Yes but unlike Jim and Des, your husband was in love with a male sergeant� Gina laughed
�Thanks for reminding me of that�
�My pleasure, just as long as you stay away from the men�s toilets� Gina looked at June who fired an evil glare back �Sorry that was your hen night wasn�t it June�
�Gina� June growled �This is not going to be a conversation topic�
�Oh go on sarge� Honey pleaded
�Don�t be a spoil sport June� said Gina �I know something happened, you disappeared in to the toilet for quite a while�
Eva smiled �You needed a crow bar to separate the pair of you on the dancefloor, you were getting rather carried away�
�Don�t you try and fish either, what happened is and will remain mine and Jim�s secret�
�So something did happen then�
�I didn�t say that Gina�
The lads groaned as Des cheered � 1-0 to the Pool�
�Don�t rub it in , there is still time for the blues to score� replied a despondent Gary
�How sad is this, your on your stag do and we are watching Liverpool v Man City, we could have done this at home�
�Shut up Reggie babe�
�It�s my stag do, I can do what I want�
�Wonder what the girls are up to�

�You must be joking, I�m not getting that done� said Gina as they watched Kerry get her belly pierced�
�I�ll do it� said June
�Wicked� said Honey excitedly �You can go after me�
�You are barking mad the lot of you, Honey and Kerry I can understand, but I thought you would have had more sense June�
�I can do some crazy things when I want to Gina�
�It�s not too late� said Sheelagh as June sat back into the chair
�No, I�m ready and not changing my mind�
June winced as the needle went through her skin
�Nice one sarge, Jim will get a shock when he sees that� said Honey
�Oh well it will give him something else to play with when he is down there�
Everyone looked at June slightly shocked then started to laugh
�123' shouted Jim as Des, Reg, Gary, Tony, Nick, Smithy and Cameron downed a shot of tequila, Jim laughed as Reg turned a shade of green �You ok Reg?�
�I told you tequila makes me sick�
�Don�t be such a pansy Reggie� laughed Cameron
�Well I wondered when we would bump into you lot�
They all turned round as they recognised the voice that was clearly audible above the music in the club
�Ma�am, Des and I were wondering when our plans would finally pay off� said Tony
�What plans� asked Gary
�Your surprise Gary� said Gina
�What surprise?�
�It is no coincidence that we have all ended up in here, this whole weekend was planned as a joint operation�
�So is Honey here? Gary asked excitedly
�Yes� Gina continued �She�s on the dance floor with the rest of the girls � she noticed Gary�s smile getting wider � What you still standing there for then PC Best, she�s moping after you too�
Gary ran off towards the dancefloor
�Plan worked then?� commented Des
�Like a good un, now is there anymore tequila anywhere?�
�Of course� Des signalled to the barman to pour more shots
�You not going to find your wife then Jim, she has got one hell of a surprise for you�
Jim looked at Gina puzzled
�What do you mean�
�You will find out, she�s on the dancefloor too� Jim was about to walk away �Oh Jim, stay away from the toilets won�t you�
June winced as Jim wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her neck
�What�s wrong� he said into her ear � You don�t usually mind�
June turned round �It doesn�t matter, what are you lot doing here?�
�Didn�t Gina tell you, this whole weekend was planned between her, Kerry, Des and Tony�
�Well Im glad, I have really missed you�
�Me too� they kissed, anyway what is this about a surprise, Gina said you had one for me�
�Did she now, you are going to have to wait till we get home wont you�
�That sounds ominous�
�I think Im going to be sick if we have to watch anymore of that lot� said Tony
�If we get a bucket of water to cool them all down we could use it to vomit in afterwards, if that is love you can stick it� Gina retorted
�I think it�s sweet, they make a lovely couple�
�Im not talking about Honey and Gary, Smithy, I mean the other four, they are far worse, you can forgive Des and Sheelagh they had not seen each other for a fortnight before today, but June and June should know better after the last night out�
�How about we try and separate Jim and June and go back to one of the hotels for a drink� said Tony
�Don�t worry Ma�am, you can always stay with Tony at our hotel if we they don�t come up for air tonight�
�Smithy that is not even funny� Gina glared at him
�Why don�t we slip away for five minutes, take the drinks over and disappear� Jim said as he pulled June closer to him
�Five minutes, your hoping aren�t you?�
�You cheeky woman, you have blown it now�
�You know Im only joking, I could never complain about that side of our relationship� June flashed a seductive smile as she let her hands wander across Jim �How about we get the barman to take the drinks over for us.........you want your surprise don�t you?�
�Oh I had forgotten about that� Jim smiled
Jim kissed her stomach and laughed �I like it, you are full of surprises, I could have hours of fun with this�
�That is what I said earlier� June laughed �Gina is not going to be too impressed if she comes up and finds us like this�
�It could have been worse, she could have walked in a few moments ago and witnessed something else�
�You can be wicked Jim� June said as she got out of bed and wrapped a towel around her body, she turned and smiled at him � Come on we should go back down stairs before someone notices we have gone�
�Do we have to? Can�t we hide up here a bit longer�
�I suppose a bit longer won�t hurt.........I could do with a shower, you care to join me?�
June opened the bathroom door and stopped suddenly �Gina� she exclaimed as she saw the grin on Gina�s face as she took in the site of the room, the trail of clothes around the floor �We were going to tidy up but we�
�I don�t want to know� Gina said as she noticed June�s underwear hanging from June�s crumbled bed �And to think we were worried that something was wrong, you look like you are both quite ok.....did you like your surprise James?�
�Um.......yeah� he looked at the floor like a kid that had been told of for doing something wrong�
�Don�t look so worried Jim, I�ll see you back downstairs�
June laughed as Gina left
�Oi oi � said Des shouted as June and Jim came back into the bar �being sociable now are we, at least you bought some drinks before you cleared off, Gary and Honey cleared off 10 minutes ago�
�This is becoming a sun hill tradition� said Cameron
�Well they are not in our room� said Sam as she sat back down
�Oh great they must have gone back to our hotel, where am I going to sleep� enquired Smithy who did not fancy sharing a room with both Gary and Honey�
�Well you could kip in with Reg and I could stay with Sheelagh and Eva could stay with Sam�
�It�s bad enough that I share a bedroom with you at home, I was glad not to have someone snoring in my ear all night� Sheelagh commented as Des�s grin fell as the others laughed
�Right who is up for some more shots of something poisonous, after the conversation I have just had with Abigail I want to get very drunk and forget that I have a teenager at home�
�What�s she done now asked Eva�
�Only had a party and someone has smashed the back door�
�Oh fantastic, that is one thing you can do without�
�Just think yourself lucky June that the twins are still young�
�You must be joking, have you seen the mess that two 2 year olds and Jim can make in a house�
�That�s unfair� Jim commented
�At least you have only got one teenager at home, June and Jim are going to have double trouble when Imogen and Tegan are teenagers� said Kerry
�Looks like some sort of accident� Kerry commented as she tried to get a better view of what was causing the traffic to slow
�Great it�s going to take longer to get home now, the boys will defiantly beat us now� said Honey
�Looks pretty nasty� Kerry continued � A lorry has hit a...........�
�What�s wrong Kerry� Sheelagh was suddenly alarmed by the look of horror and Kerry�s face
�it�s hit a minibus�
�It looks like the boys bus, I�ll go up the hard shoulder � Gina looked in her mirror at the alarmed expressions on the faces of everyone �Im sure they will all be fine�
�The lorry just lost control as it was overtaking us, Jim tried to avoid it but he had no chance� said Smithy as Eva hugged him �Des and Tony are trapped in the back, Jim is trapped by the wheel�
�Oh no� June cried �I need to see him�
�You have to stay here June, its not safe� said Reg
�They will be ok� said Nick �Lets just let the fire brigade do their job� he put a hand on June�s shoulder as Reg held her protectively
June rushed to the ambulance to which Jim had been taken to
�How is he?� she asked, unable to control the tears that were streaming down her face �He�s my husband�
�June isn�t it� asked the paramedic �He has been asking for you, he has been drifting in and out of consciousness, he hit head on the wheel�
�Is it bad?� she asked as she sat down in the ambulance as they prepared to leave and take Jim to the local hospital �We are police officers, we know what can happen with RTA�s�
�We won�t know for sure until we get till the hospital�
June took hold of Jim�s hand �Please be ok, the twins will want to see their Daddy�
Jim watched Des and Sheelagh talking, looking so happy and relieved, for one brief moment life looked bleak for Sheelagh, as it did for all of them. Des had broken his leg in 4 places but things looked hopeful that he would be back behind the wheel of the area car within a few months, Tony was in theatre having his broken bones manipulated back in place. Both Des and Tony were lucky not to be more seriously hurt, like Jim they were sat on the side the lorry hit the bus, the others had all walked away with cuts and bruising.
For June this was the beginning a nightmare, Jim had regained consciousness briefly in the ambulance, he smiled when he saw his wife and told her that he loved her before slipping into a coma
Jim had suffered a head injury on impact, the doctors had told June that they wanted to perform a CT scan as the damage Jim had suffered was not consistent with the blow to the head he had taken.
June had tried not to worry about this whilst Jim was in the scanner, but as soon as the consultant approached her she knew that it was something serious
�Im really sorry Mrs Carver, the CT scan of your husbands brain has indicated that there is a tumour growing�
�What?..............�June suddenly felt as if her world was failing apart
�There is sign that the bleeding into his brain is being caused by this� He continued �We would like to take him to theatre to stop the bleeding and see if the tumour can be removed or not�
�He�s going to die?� June asked
�We can�t tell the full extent of the tumour until we have stopped the bleeding, As his next of kin we need your permission to operate�
�Where do I sign� June asked �Just do whatever is needed to help Jim�
�I must warn you that there is a risk that he may die in theatre� he said
�And if you don�t he will die any way� she responded as she signed the consent form
�Thank you Mrs Carver, we will do all we can�
June put her head in her hands and sobbed as the doctor walked away and Gina approached her
�June.....June what�s wrong� she took June into her arms as June�s emotions over took her body
�They found.........�June was desperately trying to find the words � Jim�s has a brain tumour� she could not find the strength to say anything as she dissolved into tears
Gina tried to speak but her own emotions would not allow her to find the right words, she knew that words of support were required, but at this moment no words could help ease the pain that June was suffering
