Family Life
Part 3
June hugged Mia tightly as she wept, she felt angry that Marie thought she could take over and upset that Jim didnt get to spend as much time as she knew he wanted to with Mia.
So Mia what did daddy buy you?
Mia went over to the big bear and hugged it Oh thats beautiful, its bigger than you she laughed. Typical Jim she thought. June picked up the locket off the table Did daddy give you this too Mia?
Yes

June opened the box Oh theres beautiful Mia, mummy will keep this for you in your jewellery box. Well have to find photos to put inside it she said as she opened the locket. Once the locket was opened tears came to her eyes again as Jim had already put photos in it of himself and June together.
Mummy and daddy Mia smiled
Yes, it is
They were happy times she thought as she remembered when the photos were taken.

Later that afternoon

June and Mia arrived at the community centre where they were having the party. Everyone was there with their families. Jim ran over and picked Mia up
Hows my birthday girl he smiled
Daddy
Shes fine, Jim about this morning..
June I am sorry it was my fault I shouldnt have brought them with me
No you should have they are your family, I just have to get used to seeing Marie playing mum thats all
June you are Mias mother and no one else
Thanks Jim

Jim took Mia off to play with the other children and Marie followed him. June smiled as she watched Jim playing with the kids. Everyone gave June the birthday presents, which she stacked up ready to go into the car to open later at home, then she ended up talking to the guests.

Hello June
Hello Tom June hugged him How are you?
fine thanks
Shes beautiful June
I am sorry I didnt tell you, you were an Uncle, Tom
I understand really I do
Thank you, I was really nervous about meeting up with all of Jims family again because I know you all would have loved to have known her sooner
Yes well we know her now, and Jim loves her to death
I know, hes great with her she smiled as they both watched Jim playing on his hands and knees.
June would you like to come out for a drink with me sometime to catch up Tom asked
Yes that would be lovely
How does tomorrow sound
Great if I can get a babysitter
Jim would love to have her for the night
True she smiled

It was coming to the end of the party, June asked Tony, Reg and Tom to help her put the presents into the car.
Jim noticed what was going on and went over to help Its been a good day Jim beams
Yes, I am glad I told you Jim
Me too
Wheres Mia now?
Over there with Sheelagh Jim said as he pointed to the bouncy castle, she s tired out
Well its been a long day. I will finish putting these into the car and then Ill take her home. She can open this lot tomorrow
Good idea
Jim would you be able to look after Mia tomorrow night
Of course I will, you going anywhere nice
Tom has asked me out for a drink

Oh right Jim replied looking jealous Will it be alright if I come around tomorrow to see her open her presents
Well therell be no need to do that now will there darling  Marie butted in If you are looking after Mia tomorrow, we should take half the presents with us and she can open them over our house
No I am sorry but I want her to open them in our house June replied I am happy for Jim, you and Ben to come around to watch her but I wont  have her opening her presents without me
Jim has the right, hes her father

Yes and I am her mother and what you have to understand is that up until a few months ago it was just me and Mia, I cant just let go like that
Jim say something, tell her Marie snapped
Junes rights
What?
Mia should open her presents with her mother, June I will come around tomorrow
Thank you Jim June replied gratefully
Jim your too soft, when are you going to sort proper access out, it cant go on like this Marie snapped
Marie leave it
No you should sort something out, we should have her at weekends or something
Marie I said leave it Jim snapped
No Jim its alright, Maries right we should sort something out its not fair on you

Jim was shocked by this, Jim was happy with things the way they were as he could see Mia whenever he wanted and June too.
Yeah well not now hey
June closed the boot of the car, thanked everyone for coming and then put Mia who was fast asleep into the car. She drove off leaving Jim confused and angry.
