Neil looked around the office, fully aware that the entire CID office was now watching them
�My office DC Carver, I think we need to continue this conversation in private�
�I�m more than happy to discuss this here and if you don�t believe me that is your problem, if you don�t mind I have things to sort, I need to be somewhere in a few hours�
�You are not going anywhere Jim, you have been awol for long enough, you can�t leave this building without my say so�
�Is that right?� Jim got up from his chair �I was not asking for permission DI Manson, I have to be somewhere and I am going to be there�
�DC Carver, I�m ordering you to get back to your desk� Neil continued as Jim walked �And if you don�t stay there you will be back in uniform before the day is over��then again perhaps you would like that , you can be bossed around by your wife�
The mention of Junes name was the catalyst that fuelled Jim�s temper, he grabbed hold of Neil and pinned him against the wall
�Don�t you dare bring June into this�
�Never mind uniform you will be lucky to still be in the met at the end of the day if you���
�Jim he�s not worth losing your job over� Sam said as she tried to calm Jim down
�See what I mean about you being bossed around by woman, no wonder you are still a DC� Neil sneered �No need to ask who wears the trousers in your marriage, June must be�
�Must what?���Jim could feel his blood boil as he tighten his grip on Neil�s jacket �You are not worth it�
Neil straightened his tie and shirt as Jim walked towards the door
�You are suspended DC Carver�
�I don�t give a toss if you sack me, I have more important things to worry about than this place�
�What like staying out of the pub�
�You wish, try watching your wife being told she has cancer then you might understand why I don�t care what you do to me, June is the only thing that is important in my life�
Silence fell as everyone looked at Neil as Jim left the office as Jim�s statement registered
�June has cancer?�
�Yes guv, that is why they have been away, they didn�t want people to know yet, she had a lump removed and they are waiting to find out if the cancer has spread any further� Sam said
�I didn�t realise that something was wrong�
�No you never do�
�Who the hell does he think he is?� Jim exclaimed as he kicked the wall
�Don�t worry about him it will all blow over, the DI feels pretty bad�
�I went to far, I�m just so scared, I ve nearly lost her twice in the past year, I don�t know how we are going to get through this if they tell us that it has spread�.why do things always come along and ruin things, are we not allowed to be happy, I love her so much, all I want to do is protect her and I can�t even do that�
�How is June?�
�Not good, she is trying to take her mind off things but it�s not working, she has decorated the bathroom and has nearly finished the kitchen�
�That sounds like her, didn�t she paint the dinning room after the shooting? Sam asked
�Yeah and the bedroom, she can�t sit still for a minute��I don�t know how much longer I can be strong for, I want to make it all better but I can�t, I don�t know how she will cope if they tell her that it has spread further than her breast, she is having her last scan today, we get the results tomorrow�
�Tell her that Gina, Jack and I are all thinking of her and we all love her very much�
�Thanks Sam, I think I maybe in the dog house, she didn�t want it to be public knowledge yet�
�I don�t think she will mind, it�s a difficult time for you both, it couldn�t stay secret for much longer, people were beginning to wonder if something else was going on, June is very lucky to have you by her side throughout this all�
�You reckon, if it had not been for me June would not be facing this�
�Jim if it wasn�t for you June might not have found that lump, you probably saved her life �
June hugged Jim tightly as they both let the tears flow
�That is the best news we have had in a long time� he kissed her softly
�Indeed, at least it hasn�t spread, all I have to do is get through the radiotherapy and chemotherapy , but one step at a time�

�Exactly, promise me one thing though�

�Don�t pick anymore fights with senior officers, I have enough to worry about without worrying about you�
�I didn�t mean too, he just pushed all the right buttons, I�m sorry�
�It�s ok, I forgive you, come on James lets go home�
�You wish is my command, you look tired babe�
�I fell it, all of a sudden it has engulfed me, now we know what we are facing we can fight it, but I�m not going to worry about it until my treatment begins�
�How do you always find a positive in every situation�
�Because with you by my side I know that I can face anything�
