"I don't know June but I did warn you I told you he would hurt you" June looked away as the tears welled up in her eyes she didn't want Tony to be right Jim didn't hurt her he loved her and she knew it all she had to do was make him see.
"No Tony he didn't hurt me I let him down I pushed him away when he needed me"
Tony walked over to June and pulled her round to face him the anger in his eyes was evident to June
"Don't you dare blame yourself Jim is a fool to do this to you, you deserve someone so much better June.�� She sobbed as Tony hugged her and soothed her hair. ��We've been friends for too long June I know Jim better than he knows himself, he never loved you he told me the other day when I found out about him and Marie.��
June lifted her head "He said that",
Tony had started the lie now he had to carry on,
"yes he said you were a trial run, to see if he could manage a relationship, he said he would never get involved with someone in the job"
"I can't believe he said that after all we had together"
Tony put his hand under her chin and lifted her head "forget him June". At that he bent his head in towards June and kissed her softly,
"Tony don't".
"Come on June what have we got to lose after all Jim doesn't want you does he.��
Before he could finish June kissed him quickly and more passionately. "Not here someone might see".
She led him by the hand, "You're kidding not in here, Gina's on duty she might come and find us!"
June had led Tony into one of the cells that were free. She was hurt that Jim would say that and now she wanted to forget him, she let Tony's hands explore her body as he kissed her neck and traced a line with his tongue down and up again. It wasn't the same, it wasn't how Jim did it, it did nothing for her. If that had of been Jim she would be tingling all over calling out his name and wanting more but she didn't.
"Stop! Stop! Stop! I said Tony we can't do this, I can't do this"
"Yes we can June you've got nothing to feel guilty about he's with Marie. Do you think Jim thought of you when he slept with her."
June shouted at Tony "What do you think I am Tony, the Sarge who gives all her relief a try"
Outside Polly has escaped the party for some air show walked past the custody desk and could hear Tony��s voice.
"Please June why don't we see if we can make a go of it. I love you and I know I can make, we can make this work" Tony walked over to June who was sobbing as she sat down on the floor her head in her hands.

She didn't want this for the first time in her life she knew now having been kissed by someone else she knew, it was Jim she wanted. No one had ever made her feel the way he did. Dave Litten was a waste of time, Gordon was a huge mistake but Jim, that was - still is - different. Jim knew what she was thinking; he knew what she was going to say before she said it and most of all he made her feel loved. This was all she�d ever wanted.��
"No Tony don't you see it could never work because of how I feel about Jim"
Polly walked into the room and saw Gina, "Ma'am you have a drink I'll take over the custody desk for you".
Gina winked at Polly, "You're a star girl"
Polly walked over to Jim, "Hey Polly you having a good time?"
"Yeah you" Jim looked at Polly "I think I'm happy Poll, but I would have liked to see June here. I feel like I need to explain and since she got back from the cruise I haven't been able to find the words."
Polly grabbed hold of Jims hand,
"Polly what you doing where are we going?" Polly said nothing as they got to the custody desk and headed for the cell Polly smiled
"Look Jim I'm sorry I have to do this because it's now or never"
Jim looked confused as she opened the cell door, "What the hell is......... June, Tony what are you two doing in here?"
June looked up "Jim!"
Tony looked at Polly "What are you doing Poll?" As Polly pushed Jim in the cell door locked behind them.
"Oh great tell me you have the key Poll" Said June
Polly looked at her, "Gina's got it and she's at the party.��
��Yes which is where I should be" said Jim.
"You see I told you he doesn't give a toss about you June, just himself"
Jim ran towards Tony ready to thump him when Polly shouted,
"hey pack it in you two. Look June I heard every word you just said to Tony about Jim."
"You did! What else did you hear or see?" asked June horrified to think she saw Tony kiss her.
"June what did you say?" Jim asked her as he went towards her and sat next to her.
Polly kept hold of Tony and in her eyes he could see she was saying leave it.
"What's the point Tony told me you never loved me, how could you say that after everything we had, you made me fall in love with you and now you say you never loved me."
Jim looked at Tony and laughed
"You must be desperate to get me back mate, you bastard how can you do that, lie to June like that?��
Tony walked into the corner he couldn't bare to look at June.
"What are you talking about" Jim looked at her, he'd missed not looking into those brown eyes, "June I never said that at all. Tony was angry when he found out I was seeing Marie then he implied you were my trial run and I never said I didn't love you. Of course I love you more that I love myself"
June could feel the tears roll down her face she longed for Jim to wipe them away, just as the thought passed Jim held his hand to her face and wiped away the tears.
"I don't understand Jim after all you said to me weeks later you're engaged to Marie, a woman you hardly know why, why Jim?"
"Don't you see June I thought I'd hurt you enough and that you had stopped loving me. I gave you that chance before you went away, when I thought you had more to say, but you said nothing. I thought then I'd lost you. Marie, well she showed me some affection and I fell in to her arms. It's not the same June, she doesn't love me the way you do, she doesn�t' do this to me."
"What" said June?
"This" Jim kissed her softly, their lips met and the kiss felt warm and comforting for both of them. As they pulled apart they smiled at each other and kissed again for reassurance.
Tony looked on he couldn't bare it "huugh she's just done that to me mate".
Polly hit him "will you shut up and leave them, stop being so jealous and let go of the past Tony". Tony laughed, "Like you have you mean Polly".
"What do you mean by that?" Tony looked at Polly and said "Dave".
June looked at Jim, "he's telling the truth Jim I did just kiss him I'm sorry I was just so upset at seeing you with Marie and you look so happy".
Jim smiled and touched her cheek; he couldn't believe that she was there with him he wanted the moment to last forever.
"Jim did you hear what I said?"
"Yes I heard and I don't care who you kissed you're here with me now and well, well I love you not Marie. Yes I had feelings for her and the fact she had a lad I could play dad for helped things move quicker for us. But June it would never work how can I marry someone I don't love and I would have spent the rest of my time dreaming about the woman I am in love with, you"
"What the hells going on in here then" Gina opened the door and laughed. "Well isn't this cosy, now out the lot of you."
Polly and Tony walked out as they did Polly grabbed Tony's hand, "Hey fancy a bite to eat I think we have a lot to talk about don't you".
Tony smiled, "Oh Poll I've made a fool of myself and all because..........."
"What Tone Because of what?" Tony grabbed her hand and said "Food come on and we can talk, past behind us and lets talk truth."
"Where are we going Jim?" Jim pulled June along the corridor up to CSU. "Jim, Marie is going to be wondering where you are, stop it". Jim laughed as he kissed her neck. ��I don't care whose looking for me and you don't really want me to stop do you?" Jim looked at her winked and smiled, June smiled and laughed. "I can't believe what I'm doing when your fiancee is downstairs."
Jim stopped kissing June and realised Marie!!! He pulled away from June "Go home and wait for me there I will be back tonight". He kissed her as he made for the door June called, "Jim where are you going?" Jim stopped "June I have to see Marie and tell her it's all over".
"Jim" he looked round, "I love you".
Jim smiled and whispered, "I know and I love you to!"
Jim walked out of CSU, June had said it and he knew she meant it more than when she had said it before, she loved him.
June watched him walk out of CSU she trusted him she knew he would be back at hers tonight, in her kitchen cooking for the two of them, in her bed lying beside her making love to her and most importantly of all she would wake up next to him tomorrow. At that thought she grabbed her coat and bag and made her way home.
She got to the car park and could just see Polly and Tony getting into Polly's car, she smiled and thought, "I hope they work it out."
"Jim where have you been? I've been looking for you, everyone's gone time for us to go too,�� Marie said as she tried to pull Jim close and kiss him. But Jim pulled away and pulled Marie��s arms by her side. This was going to be hard but he had to do it he knew more than anything that he wanted to be with the woman, the only woman he ever loved and that had ever truly loved him
"What's up?" Marie asked.
Jim walked away and sat on the chair and he knew there would be no easy way of saying it but he had to, if anything just to stop the guilty feelings he'd had when he was with her and of course so he could get back to June and begin a fresh start.
"Marie I can't do this".
She��d known this was coming ever since his friend June had come back from her cruise he had been like a bear with a sore head and sex was non-existent. When she found out there had been a relationship there she understood his change of attitude. Yet Jim had reassured her it was over and that he felt nothing for June.
"Can't do what Jim?" she asked.
"Marie I can't marry you, I do have feelings for you and I thought I loved you, but... but.... I��m sorry I'm in love with someone else and no matter how much I try, and believe me I have tried to deny these feelings, they won't go away".
Marie moved towards Jim, "It's ok I know it's June isn't it".
Jim looked up amazed, "how did you guess?"
Marie touched her nose and tapped it and smiled and said to Jim, "It's woman��s intuition, we can tell when a man loves another woman. Would it make a difference if I said I would fight for you?"
Jim looked up and shook his head.
Marie nodded, "I thought so, she must mean a lot to you?"
Jim nodded again and said, "More than I ever thought or knew."
Marie walked over to Jim and pulled him out of his seat and smiled holding his hand, "Well then Jim Carver what are you waiting for go and get your girl."
Jim stood there not knowing what to do, "Well what you waiting for go, go."
Jim lent forward and kissed Marie on the cheek, "Thank you."
Marie smiled and said, "Be happy." At that Jim walked out of the room and out of Marie��s life forever.
June looked at the clock 3.30am where was he? How was he feeling? Was he having any second thoughts, had he told Marie? She wanted to comfort him. She wanted him there with her. She picked up her mobile and was just about to call when she heard the doorbell. She ran downstairs and opened the door. There stood Jim with a key in his hand,
"I wasn't sure if I should use this". June pulled him in a kissed him it was a kiss that said, ��you're here that's all that matters.��
��You ok?"
Jim slipped his coat off, "I am now I'm here with you, come here".
He pulled her close and hugged her.
She stroked his back, "Do you want to talk about it?"
��Mmmm�� Not at the moment just tell me something,"
June looked into his eyes "What darling"
"June just tell me I'm not dreaming this".
June kissed him it was like the first time they kissed in the office on the day of the fire, both were hungry for it, his mouth covered hers and his tongue searched for hers the passion was there it had never left and they both knew it. Jim lifted June up so she could wrap her legs around his waist he carried her upstairs. When they got to her room her back hit the door open and as Jim closer to the bed he slowly lowered her down on to the duvet.
June smiled and beckoned him to come closer to her, ��You see I told you this is not a dream this is forever."
Jim kissed her, their lips felt tender against each others. June unbuttoned his shirt and slipped it off and kissed his chest and the more she did it the more Jim called her name. She explored his body, re acquainted herself with it. She drew patterns on his skin, she remembered what he liked. She kissed his neck and let his lips graze her skin, pleasing him.
He rolled her over so he was on top and began to undress her as she giggled, "I have so missed this." Jim looked at her naked body and whispered, "Not as much as I have. I want you more than I have ever wanted anything. June I love you so much it hurts to think that we nearly lost this, I will never let that happen again."
She rolled him over so that she was lying on top of him the felling of his warm skin next to hers made her feel secure and she held his arms above his head and whilst holding his hand she kissed him.
They spent the next few hours making passionate love recapturing what both their bodies had missed. Exploring each other in ways they had forgotten and enjoying each others orgasms and the pleasure it was giving to the other.
June lay on her side and could feel Jim snuggle up behind and wrap his arm around her. This was all she ever wanted and nothing would ever spoil this feeling again.
June looked at the clock 7.30am Sunday morning she gently turned over and the relief of seeing Jim there made her smile. She kissed his forehead and played with his hair. She had woken up with a dread that last night had been a dream but seeing Jim there, lying next to her was all she needed to reassure her.
Jim stirred and smiled up at her, "Morning beautiful",
She kissed him "Good morning and thank you.
"Mmmm�� Jim murmured, "Thank you for what?"
June teased him stroking his front and then tracing a line up to his neck with her tongue before kissing him. "Thank you for last night the beginning of the best years for us." She laughed,
"What you laughing at?" he said.
June looked at him touching his face, "You're gonna think I'm daft",
"Never", said Jim."Well that feels so right saying that and thinking of us being together for the rest of our lives. Twenty years we've been together and the thought of not having you around, not seeing you every day and now not waking up next to you every morning or even kissing you, well it just doesn't bare thinking about."
Jim grinned at her and pulled her close feeling her bare skin next to his made him tingle all over and he knew this was the beginning of the best years and he knew then the time was right to ask.
"June do you mind if.........."
June looked at him "Mind if you do what?"
Jim pulled her close stroking her back gently letting his fingernails scratch her skin as his tongue searched for hers. ��Mmm�� I never mind you wanting to do that."
Jim held her and said "No do you mind if I ask you to be my wife?"
June smiled as tears came in to her eyes, "Mind? You fool of course I don't mind and of course I will marry you. Just promise me one thing."
Jim looked at her "anything".
"Jim I love you just promise you will never leave me I don't think I would cope without you being around."
Jim cupped her face in his hands and gently stroked the tears away as he kissed her softly and said "I am here forever and forever is a long time darling."
