A Winter's Day

Walking through snow

Like sand taking your breath

Sinking into the bright coldness

Why am I thinking of death?

Crystals brush against my face

Deciding between ice and tears

You will never walk my path

No wish to live inside my fears.

A robin leaves its footprints

Soon to vanish under this white veil

The trees bend and shudder in their solitude

But my body lies still and turns pale.

Remember me when the snow hurts your eyes

and the birds fly darkly overhead

If you want let a tear fall and find the snowdrop below

And please make sure the robin is fed.
