Darkness

They shuffle along,

Hat pulled down,

Hiding the despair,

Eyes on the ground,

Sometimes a glance poisons the air.

The scent of the morning dew,

On cut grass was never theirs.

I have been there,

In the underworld,

Pluto at my side,

Never wanting to be his bride.

Heart shrivelled,

Like a piece of dried fruit,

Walking in solitude,

Like the living dead,

No words in my head,

I became quite mute.

When freedom came,

I breathed in the light,

Joy returned,

And my world became right,

So pray for those,

Who are trapped and in hell,

And if you can’t,

Just wish them well.
