Basketry Classes

Beginner Classes
Appropriate for persons who have never woven before or who have only woven a few baskets. In most beginner classes you will go home with a finished basket--instant gratification!
Upper-Beginner Classes
Appropriate for persons who have some weaving experience (i.e. 6 or more baskets). Classes rated anything above beginner may need to be completed at home in order for us to have time to do more challenging things in class. Therefore, it is important that you are comfortable wrapping handles and lashing rims on your own.
Appropriate for persons who are confident weavers with shaping, tension and a variety of weaving techniques. There may be homework (if the basket is more than one session) and baskets will more than likely need to be completed at home in order for us to have time to do more challenging things in class.
Class Fees
Payment or a credit card will reserve your spot in any class at HCW. Seven days notice is required for cancellation in order to have time to reach persons on the waiting lists and fill the vacant spot. If you cancel inside of 7 days from the class date and your spot cannot be filled, it will be necessary for you to be charged for the class even if you are unable to attend. (Upper Beginner / Intermediate)

Weaving Level: Upper Beg. / Intermediate
Enticing you with this lovely twill wrapped handle and sloping sides, this basket will become a fast friend gracing your hearth or sitting by your couch holding lots of magazines, toys, etc. We begin with an oak D-handle and weave this large sturdy base with plain weave sloping sides. The last class will focus on completing the waled rim (the inside rim can be tricky on this one) and wrapping the intricate twill weave handle. Dimensions are approx. 12"w x 18"l and handle height is 14".

Weaving Level: Upper Beg. / Intermediate
Beginning with an oak base, you will learn how to insert spokes into a base and then weave this very useful carry all! Triple weaving and seagrass will embellish the sides. You will most likely get about 3/4 way up the sides during class, so it is very necessary that you are comfortable finishing this basket on your own. Insertion of the pegged handles will be discussed before you leave class that evening. Dimensions are approx. 14"l x 10"w x 11"h (excluding handle height).

Get a head start on those holiday gifts with this cat's head basket--perfect for rolls, muffins or cookies! We will learn how to make the traditional pointed feet and will add a few twills in the dyed weaving for added fun. The basket is completed with a triple woven rim. Dimensions are approximately 7" diameter x 5"h. You will have this finished just in time for your Thanksgiving dinner rolls!
