I have had an opportunity this semester to create lesson plans and teaching tools, which I believe will serve me well, when I become a teacher. This is a sample of some of the work I've created in my methods classes.

Othello Map
This graphic illustrates the relationships between different characters in William Shakespeare's play, Othello . It is a large .jpg file, and may take a few minutes to download, if you are using a dial-up ISP.

Othello Webquest
Students are invited to explore attitudes toward interracial relationships, and the underlying issues impacting those relationships, by watching a film clip from Othello, reading a excerpt from Othello, listening to a radio documentary/essay about an interracial couple, and finally, by reading and discussing, via an online bulleting board, two newspaper articles about contemporary interracial relationships. Students are asked to compose an essay in which they draw conclusions about the political and social challenges faced by interracial couples, both in historical and contemporary times.

Nickel and Dimed Webquest
Based on Barbara Ehrenreich's book, Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America, this non-fiction webquest invites students to recreate Ehrenreich's experiment by "virtually" living and working in one of the three cities explored in her book. Using on-line reasources like classified advertisements, students will find a job, a place to live, shop for food, and find some sort of recreation. They will keep track of income and expenses and write about their experience. The final essay, written as a first-person narrative, is a summary of the student's experiences, and requires students to draw conclusions, based on those experiences.

Catcher in the Rye: Banned Books
This short webquest, which may be used in conjunction with my Catcher in the Rye unit plan, guides students to explore contemporary book challenges and bans, and to write a persuasive essay, based upon their research, either supporting or opposing a fictional challenge to Catcher in the Rye.

Catcher in the Rye: Unit Plan
This ten-day unit plan uses performance and other tools to explore the language of this classic novel, under the guiding theme of conformity. It is appropriate for senior high school students, in grades 11 and 12.
This is a .pdf version of the lesson plan. You must have Adobe Acrobat reader (available for free at Adobe.com ) to access it.
