A Child's Broken Silence

A little girl sits in a corner

She is holding herself in a ball

A terrible thing just happened

And her only protection is the walls

She trembles out of control

And solemnly nods her head no

She cant accept what just happened

And she cant just let it go

Time after time it happens again

But she refuses to tell a soul

He explained the pain she would feel

If she ever cried or told

But he took her purity and childhood

They both became as one

Joined with happiness and confidence

He devoured, he still wasnt done

Yet she tries in her own little ways

To let her parents know

But they simply cannot see

Is that her heart was ripped from her soul

She only wants this pain to stop

And this beast to go away

But this beast is part of the family

And she knows hes here to stay

There is a crying teenage girl

With her gun pressing against her head

She doesnt feel worthy of life or love

And thinks peace will come when shes dead

Day after day she screams out

Praying someone will hear her cries

Her heart begs for an understanding

An answer to her question why

But the dark cloud of desperation grows

And the light slowly drifts away

Hope has been strangled from her body

So she falls to her knees to pray

Then in a heartbeat something changed

A ray of light gave her hope

Gods gracious hand had interviened

And through faith she climbed this rope

She gradually made her way

Out of this hole of desperation

But then one day it happened again

She blocked out the molestation

A young woman is sitting at college

Holding her head in her hands

She shuts her eyes to block it out

But in the door his silhouette stands

She opens her eyes and through the tears

She sees that same despair

She looks upon her tainted body

And sees the rapes have made her bare

What he stole cant be replaced

She cant just put it back

He raped her of all her virginity

As she laid powerless upon her back

Now fear accompanies her shadow

Following each timid step

And she cant recall a single day

When her entity hasnt wept

When it happened she was a helpless child

Another victim to the game

But now she a full grown woman

And still she carries the shame

To her, all men wear the same mask

To her, they sound alike

But her body and heart are tainted goods

And shes forgotten how to fight

Relationships end in bitter disgust

And men walk away afraid

They only see her raped body

But they refuse to see the price shes paid

You see, statistics say every one in three

Are assaulted, abused or raped

These are societys sexual victims

But our society keep their mouths taped

What a dirty little secret

That America has locked away

But Im tired of being quiet

America will hear all I have to say

Now she goes through life not knowing

Who to let in and who to trust

Not knowing if shell ever find love

And if her punishments are just

Will she ever open her heart

Through trial and error shell find her way

With every promising bond she makes

She knows shell find peace one day
