| The fourth technology facilitation standard states that educational technology facilitators must be competent in applying technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. I have included grading rubrics (Database, PowerPoint, Spreadsheet, Flyer/Model) from a comprehensive project I completed for Using Integrated Software. The project topic was HIV/AIDS awareness and students were required to locate information using the Internet and utilize various software programs. The rubrics I designed provide students with a clear, concise set of expectations. As a competent technology facilitator, I realize that there are numerous ways in which an educator may assess the work of their students through use of technology. Administering tests alone is not a fair, or accurate, practice of assessment. The rubrics were created using Microsoft Word but required me to have an understanding of the software programs being assessed as well. As far as my students are concerned, they are well-informed of what tasks must be completed. I feel students enjoy the idea of the simplicity of the grading rubrics: complete the requirements and you will be successful in this course. Prior to creating the artifacts located on this page, I had utilized rubric-makers from the Internet. I was consistently disappointed because they were never specific enough. After creating rubrics myself, I will most certainly do the same for future project assessments. I have already informed fellow colleagues of rubric-makers found on the Internet, but I will now encourage them to take time to create them themselves. Each time I learn of a new assessment technique, I become quite excited. This excitement ends rather quickly because I remember that this technology is only the beginning. I will continue to develop my proficiency with technology assessment by not being afraid to try new methods. Perhaps use of an online portfolio may be in the future for my students. |
