November 24, 1962

Folsom inmate Conrad N. Becker,41, serving time for burglary was stabbed in the prison chapel by three inmates who had taken members of the prison church choir hostage. Farrell Fenton, 29, Edward W. Maher, 27, and Edward Caugh, 29, three prisoners serving life terms for violent offenses are charged with murder. Farrell is a member of an inmate gang known as Hitler's helpers.

January 16, 1967

Nazi prison gang associate Robert Holderman is stabbed and beaten to death by Black Guerilla Family members at San Quentin.

January 17, 1967

2800 inmates (1,000 white) and (1800 black) square off on the main yard at San Quentin over the death of Robert Holderman. Prison staff breaks up the potential riot by firing several shots into the crowd wounding 5. 1 inmate suffers severe head trauma from a beating he receives and 2 others suffer non-fatal heart attacks.

August 27, 1967

Byron Barry Mills is arrested in Ventura, California and held for transfer to Sonoma County which has issued an arrest warrant in his name for grand theft auto.

December 12, 1967

Byron Barry Mills is denied a request for probation and sentenced to serve 1 year in the Sonoma County jail.

Byron Barry Mills and Buddy Coleman escape from the Sonoma County Honor Farm.

February 17, 1968

Byron Barry Mills is arrested in Windsor, California. He is held on a warrant charging escape W/O focre.

March 12, 1968

Byron Barry Mills is sentenced to serve 6 months to 1 year and 1 day in state prison for escape W/O force from the Sonoma County jail. Mills is received at Vacaville State Medical Facility.

Byron Barry Mills and William Hackworth are arrested after robbing a Stewarts Point convenience store on January 28.

February 3, 1970

Byron Barry Mills is convicted of 1st degree armed robbery after co-defendant Hackworth testified for the prosecution. Mills is sentenced to serve 5 years to life.



July 11, 1970

Aryan Brotherhood members Fred Steve Mendrin and Donald Ray Hale stab Nuestra Familia leader Fred Charles Castillo to death at the Chino Institute for Men. The murder is reportedly committed to seal a pact between the A.B.'s and the Mexican Mafia.

Aryan Brotherhood members Fred Steve Mendrin and Donald Ray Hale are sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Fred Charles Castillo.

October 18, 1977

Parolee Joseph "Little Joe" O'Rourke is arrested after a shoot out with campus police at El Camino Community College.

November 25, 1977

Aryan Brotherhood member David Owens and an associate Robert "New York" Crane rob the Bank of America in Agoura, California earning approximately $9,000.

December 2, 1977

Robert Crane is named as the prime suspect in the murder of A.B., member Kenneth "Hogjaw" Cochran.

Byron Barry Mills is released from San Quentin.

January 11, 1978

Owens is arrested and charged with the Agoura robbery, authorities seize $3,844.

March 13, 1978

Owens is found guilty and sentenced to federal prison his co-defendant Crane is held in Orange County jail on a murder charge (see December 2, 1977).

Little Joe O'Rourke is sentenced to 7 years in state prison.

Aryan Brotherhood member Robert Lee Griffin 'McGrif' sponsors Clifford Smith for membership. The sponsorship is later approved by John William Stinson 'Youngster', Richard Lloyd Terflinger 'Bart', Robert Lee Griffin 'McGrif' and Ronald Boyd Slocum 'McKool'.

June 1978

Byron Barry Mills is sentenced to serve 20 years in federal prison for his role in the plotting of a Fresno Bank robbery which took place in June 1976.

Aryan Brotherhood member Byron Barry Mills murders A.B., associate John Marzloff at the (USP) Atlanta, Georgia.

1980

Aryan Brotherhood establishes a 3 man Federal Commission to direct the activity of the newly commissioned federal faction, Barry Byron Mills assumes unofficial command.

June 8, 1980

A.B., associate Robert Hogan is murdered on the order of Byron Barry Mills .

February 1982

California Aryan Brotherhood faction leaders John William Stinson, Richard Lloyd Terflinger, Robert Lee Griffin, Ronald Boyd Slocum and Edward Tyler Burnett form a 12 man council to govern the groups affairs in the state prison system. The council then formed a three man commission 'Griffin, Slocum and Burnett,' which controlled the 12 man council. The council has been reduced to six over the years.

September 27, 1982

Aryan Brotherhood leader Thomas Silverstein murders Raymond "Cadillac" Smith leader of the "D.C. Mob," at the United States Penitentiary, Marion Illinois.

December 9, 1982

Aryan Brotherhood member Neil Baumgarten [#20586-148] is murdered at the U.S. Penitentiary (USP), Lewisburg by members of the "D.C. Mob," in retaliation for the murder of Raymond "Cadillac" Smith.

A.B., member Robert "Blinky" Griffen is found guilty of killing T-Bone Gibson.

February 13, 1983

A.B., member Richard Barnes is murdered on the order of Ronald Boyd Slocum.

September 23, 1983

A.B., associate Gregory Keefer is stabbed to death at the (USP) Marion, Illinois by another A.B., associate over a drug debt. Byron Barry Mills authorized the hit.

October 6, 1983

A.B., member Richard "Rhino" Andreasen is stabbed to death by by an A.B., associate at the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas. Andreasen's murder was authorized by A.B. leaders who believed Andreasen had provided the name of an A.B. associate involved in a robbery in Santa Ana, California. Ronald Boyd Slocum and Byron Barry Mills.

**October 6, 1983

A.B., leader Thomas Silverstein stabs officer Eugene Clutts 40 times at the (USP) Marion, Illinois for "disrespecting him." Officer Bob Hoffman is stabbed 35 to 40 tiems by Silverstein's crime partner at Marion the same afternoon.

January 30, 1984

Officer Boyd Spikerman is stabbed to death at the Federal Correctional Institution, Oxford, Wisconsin by an A.B., associate.

February 7, 1984

Robert Walter Scully assaults a fellow inmate at San Quentin.

March 13,1984

John William Stinson sends a kite informing Pete Pulos of the defection of Aryan Brotherhood member Rick Rose.

April 12, 1984

24 year old A.B., Jesse Brun sets fire to a black inmate in the shower area at Folsom prison. The victm suffers burns over 25 % of his body.

April 27, 1984

R. Scully attempts to stab a guard at San Quentin.

April 28, 1984

Robert Walter Scully gasses two San Quentin guards resulting in no charges or disciplinary action.

May 1, 1984

Robert Walter Scully assaults a San Quentin guard with a shank, a search of his person turned up 3 hack saw blades in his rectum. Two .22 caliber bullets were also detected in his stomach. All charges were later dismissed.

May 29, 1985

Robert Walter Scully is charged with assaulting a fellow inmate and possession of a weapon at San Quentin. Sculley is later sentenced to a 6 additional years in prison for stabbing the unnamed inmate

September 1985

Tyler Davis Bingham is named to the 3 man federal commission.

October 10, 1987

Rodney Dale Ross stabs 33 year old Gordon Gaskill to death at Folsom prison.



June 22, 1987

A.B., member Art Ruffo is shot in the hip by officer David Pitts during a knife attack on a black inmate. The Ruffo attack occurs at the same time fellow A.B., Paul Jon "Cornfed" Schneider attacks a second black inmate in what prison authorities define as a hit attempt. The incidents kick off "Hell week," a series of attacks at Folsom Prison ordered by Wendell "Blue" Norris a founding member of the gang.

July 7, 1987

A.-In an attack ordered by Wendell Norris in retaliation for the shooting of Art Ruffo, Paul Jon Schneider stabs rookie correctional officer Carl Kropp in the throat during a strip search.

B.-Officer Pitts is wounded by a shotgun blast as he drives to his West Sacramento home.

October 10, 1987

Robert Walter Scully is charged with possessing a weapon at Tehachapi prison, charges are later dropped.

November 25, 1987

Judith Danielle Box girlfriend of Phillip "Wildman" Fortman is charged with providing A.B., members with the addresses of prison guards.

March 15, 1988

A.B., defector Robert Ryan Rowland outlined a plot to kill correctional officers as soon as personnell was available.

July 14, 1988

Aryan Brotherhood member Rodney Dale Ross is convicted of killing inmate Gordon Gaskill at Folsom Prison.

August 28, 1988

Judith Danielle Box is convicted of providing personal information to Aryan Brotherhood members obtained from her job at the Franchise Tax Board.

February 15, 1989

Judith Danielle Box is sentenced to serve 3 years in prison after she was found guilty of "maliciously gaining access to a computer system and conspiring to commit an assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury."

June 5, 1989

Aryan Brotherhood member Marvin Stanton is beaten and shot with a 37mm block-gun after he battles a member of the Nuestra Familia on an excercise yard at Corcoran State Prison.

Aryan Brothood member Todd Ashker is found guilty of second degree murder in the death of a Folsom Prison inmate.

Todd Ashker is sentenced to 21 years to life for the 1987 murder of a Folsom prison inmate.

Robert W. Sculley is transferred to the newly opened maximum security Pelican Bay Prison due to his history of violence against inmates and staff at San Quentin.

August 21, 1991

Correctional officers find materials used to make inmate weapons in the cell of Aryan Brotherhood member Joseph Anthony Barrett.

September 17, 1991

Paul Jon Schneider is convicted in the stabbing of Attorney Phillip Cozens during A.B., member Todd Ashker's murder trial. Schneider is immediately sentenced to life in prison.



July 1992

Byron Barry Mills sponsors Lawrence Klaker for Aryan Brotherhood membership.

December 16, 1992

Parolee Victor F. Carrafa, a documented member of the Aryan Brotherhood is arrested in Stockton after he arrives at a home armed with a Buck Knife and a .38-caliber semiautomatic pistol.



1993

Byron Barry Mills and Tyler Davis Bingham form the 'federal council' to oversee the day to day operation of the Aryan Brotherhood in the federal system. The council is accountable to the 'federal commission.' David Michael Sahakian, Cleo Roy and Wayne Bridgewater are named to the federal council.

Aryan Brotherhood associate Jerry Noble "Termite" Kennedy founder of the Sacramaniacs motorcycle gang shoots and kills Glenn Sherman Chambers of Campbell, Oregon.

May 11, 1993

Aryan Brotherhood member Victor F. Carrafa stages a brazen daytime escape from the custody of the Sacramento County Sherriff's department during a dentist appointment. Aided by fellow brotherhood member Gerard Joseph Gallant Jr., the attack left deputy Steve Fonbuena in critical condition suffering gunshot wounds to the face and abdomen.

Joseph Anthony Barrett is cited after assaulting another inmate.

February 26, 1994

Sculley is released from Pelican Bay Prison. Terms of his parole order him to submit to regular drug testing and association with members of the Aryan Brotherhood as well as the consumption of alcohol are forbidden.

March 24, 1994

Aryan Brotherhood member Robert Walter Scully is arrested in Newport Beach and found to be in possession of a loaded .25-caliber pistol. He is also charged with displaying false indentification. Sculley is ordered back to Pelican Bay for 1 year.

June 1, 1994

Joseph A. Barrett assaults a correctional officer who confiscated a television from his cell.

February 20, 1995

Barrett is charged after he is caught stabbing another inmate in the back.

March 23, 1995

Aryan Brotherhood member Robert Walter Scully is released from Pelican Bay state prison. Brenda Kay Moore the girlfriend of imprisoned A.B. leader Jon Paul Schneider picks him up.

Aryan Brotherhood member Arthur Ruffo is strangled by his cellmate Brian Healy an A.B., associate at Pelican Bay.

April 9, 1996

Aryan Brotherhood member Thomas Kent Richmond is killed by his cellmate fellow A.B., member Joseph A. Barrett at Calipatra State Prison. Barrett stabs Richmond 13 times after receiving a letter to "squeeze and hug his cellmate," from gang leader Keith William Barnard.

Robert W. Scully halts the testimony of high ranking A.B., member Paul Jon Schneider with a slight hand justure. Scully had called Schneider as a character witness during his trial for the murder of deputy Frank Trejo.

September 5, 2001

An indictment against 6 members and 1 associate of the Aryan Brotherhood is announced. The Northern California office of the U.S. Attorney names James Pendleton 56, Reuben Pappan 57, Phillip Fortman 58, John Harper 49, Paul Jon Schneider 39, Robert Shields 44, Mark Glass 47 and Brenda Kay Moore 45 as key members of the notorious organization.

Accused child molester and Aryan Brotherhood member Dwight "Sonny" Abbott is arrested after a long standoff with police in Sunnyvale, California.

February 3, 2003

5 members and 1 associate of the Aryan Brotherhood enter guilty pleas to various RICO and drug charges. James Pendleton 57, Reuben Pappan 58, John Harper 50, Robert Shields 45, Mark Glass 46 and Brenda Kay Moore 46 face sentencing April 28, 2003 at 10:30 a:m. before Judge Illston. Charges against Phillip Fortman are dropped leaving only Paul John Schneider to face trial.

57 year old Wendell "Blue" Norris a founding member of the Aryan Brotherhood is found stabbed to death in the prison gym at Calipatria State prison. Prison officials speculate on the cause of the murder as Blue had dropped out of the Aryan Brotherhood and been debriefed by prison officials.

Prison officials Wendell Norris dies as a result of 5 self inflicted stab wounds to the chest.

May 2, 2003

5 members of the Aryan Brotherhood are sentenced to federal terms on charges of conspiracy and racketeering. The sentences metted out by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston in San Francisco James Pendleton 57 (12 1/2 years), Reuben Pappan 58 (14 years), John Harper 50 (8 years), Robert Shields 45 (7 years), Mark Glass 46 (1 year 3 mos)and Brenda Kay Moore (14 years). July 15, 2003

Correctional officers find 3 razor blades hidden in a book in the cell of Joseph A. Barrett. An inmate manufactured syringe and lighter are also recovered.

September 4, 2003

Aryan Brotherhood leader Paul John "Cornfed" Schneider enters a plea of guilty in U.S. District Court in San Francisco to charges of conspiracy and racketeering. Schneider's plea includes admissions that he organized the smuggling of methamphetamine into Pelican Bay State Prison and of ordering former cellmate Robert W. Sculley to commit a robbery which resulted in the murder of Sonoma County Deputy Frank Trejo in 1995.

October 28, 2003

Aryan Brotherhood leader Paul John "Cornfed" Schneider is sentenced to his life in Federal prison for the slaying of Sonoma County Sheriff Frank Trejo. The sentence is the third life sentence passed against Schneider who is viewed as one of the most influential leaders in the Aryan Brotherhood.

Joseph A. Barrett is found guilty in the murder of former cellmate Thomas Kent Richmond.

Joseph A. Barrett assault a corrctional officer as he distributed cleaning supplies to his cell at Calipatra State Prison.

April 4, 2004

Brend Jo Riley wife of Elliot Scott Grizzle is sentenced to serve 21 months in Federal prison for acting as a message courier on behalf of the Aryan Brotherhood.

November 29, 2004

35 year old Wade Arthur Shiflett is shot and killed on "B" yard at Sacramento State Prison. Shiflett was in the process of attacking a fellow Aryan inmate group member on the order of James "Boots" Tigar.

July 22, 2005

U.S. District Judge David Carter set a date of January 27, 2006 for the start of jury selection in the federal Aryan Brotherhood trial. Carter ruled defense attorney's could call Thomas "Terrible Tom" Silverstein as a defense witness but he would remain shackled in court.

January 22, 2006

California Department of Corrections officials announce a investigation into the use of prison peace keepers by correctional staff. A.B., shotcaller James "Boots" Tigar is sited as one of the figures used in negotiations between inmate groups.

July 28, 2006

A federal jury found four leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang guilty. Barry “The Baron” Mills, 57; Tyler “The Hulk” Bingham, 58; Edgar Wesley Hevle, 54; and Christopher Overton Gibson, 46 were convicted after eleven days of deliberation, of ordering attacks on black inmates in the federal prison system, as well as planning killings of other prisoners.

Robert Lee "Blinky" Griffin, 59, and John William "Youngster" Stinson, 52, were convicted on January 9 of conspiracy to commit racketeering, and committing violent acts in aid of racketeering. Both men face life sentences without the possibility of parole..

March 15, 2007

The federal trial for Wayne Bridgewater, Henry Houston and Ronald Slocum charged with helping plot the August 1997 slayings of black inmates Frank Joyner and Abdul Salaam in the federal prison in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania begins in Orange County.

September 12, 2007

Robert Griffin and John Stinson were sentenced to federal prison following their Jan. 9, 2007, guilty verdicts on RICO conspiracy and murder charges. On Sept. 10, 2007, U.S. District Court Judge Gary Klaussner sentenced Griffin to life in prison without the possibility of parole, to run consecutively to any remaining term of imprisonment. Stinson was sentenced to three consecutive terms of life without the possibility of parole.



January 11, 2008

Federal prosecutors drop all charges against Richard Terflinger, Gary Littrell and Michael McElhiney in the AB conspiracty case. Littrell serving a sentence of 37 years to life, will earn his first chance of parole in 2034, when he will be 72 years old. Terflinger is serving a life sentence. McElhiney's projected release date is 2035, when he will be 78.

Aryan Brotherhood shot-caller Duke Kimberly Boyd is pleads guilty on murder charges for the death of William Boyd Stanton of Riverside on the A yard at Pelican Bay in 1989.
