Parker/Black Ring

Tank Black and Dean Parker

The unlikely alliance of William "Tank" Black a successful sports agent and Dean Charles Parker, a former second rate basketball player turned drug dealer was brought to lite in a case which received tremendous media attention. Tank Black counted amoung his clients Detroit Lions wideout Jermaine Crowell, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor and a host of others. Dean Parker at 6'7" 205 lbs was a former aspiring basketball start who turned his attention to illicit activity when it became clear that he held little chance of a professional career in hoops. Authorities found that Parkers drug ring smuggled 1,000 kilos of cocaine a month in the Detroit area. Parker turned to Black to help him set up and ship money to an offshore bank account in the Carribean.

Parker disappeared along with his wife and two children in June of 1998 when authorities began closing in on him. With Blacks help, Parker was believed to have fled the country yet remained on the run until finally succumbing in a vicious gun battle with federal agents. Tank Black's fate was decided in a court of law. It was found that Black continued to conduct shady business deals bilking one South Carolina investor while stealing money from his sports clientele. Tank Black was sentenced to nearly 7 years in prison for his role in money laundering, fraud and drug smuggling.
