Frank Meli

The older brother of former Eastside Gangland boss Angelo Meli. Frank was himself an underworld figure of repute who through his involvement in extortion as well as his suspected participation in several acts of violence, including mayhem and murder managed to earn a nafarious reputation of his own. Later to be a key advisor in labor rackets as well as a successful coin and vending machine dealer, Frank directed the rise of his nephew Vincent H. Meli in the same fields. It was Frank who assisted Vince in establishing the Meltone Music Company providing a $30,000 loan. Frank's daughter Marie "aka Toni" married William Buffalino the cousin of Pennsylvania's Buffalino family boss Russell. Frank Meli's career was highlighted in 1963 during the Valachi hearings one of the last times the activities of the shadowy Meli would appear in print. Frank Meli died on May 12, 1988 at the age of 93 in Sterling Heights Michigan. Frank had outlived his younger brother by nearly 20 years. 1
