Dr. Mrutyunjay Jena passed his M.Sc. in Botany in the year 2003 and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Botany from Utkal University in the year 2009. He has worked at Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries, Berlin, Germany as DAAD- Fellow (June 2008 to March 2010) and at IARI, New Delhi (December 2010 to July 2011) in Indo-Denmark Project as Post Doctoral Fellow. He has been serving as a Lecturer in the P. G. Department of Botany, Berhampur University since 2011 and as a coordinator of the department from 2015. His principal research interest is Biodiversity of algae, Molecular Systematics of algae and Algal biotechnology. He has completed one major research project funded by Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project (OSDP), Bhubaneswar, Govt. of Odisha and running of one major Project approved by MoEF & CC, Govt. govt. of India since, 2016. He has guided 15 M.Phil. students and 7 Ph.D. scholars continuing under his guidance. He has published 20 research papers in peer reviewed and impact journals and authored 1 monograph. He has attended 30 national and international seminars, conference and workshops in India and abroad. He was conferred with DAAD–fellowship award by German Academic Exchange Service in 2008, DS-Kothari Post Doctoral fellowship award by UGC, Govt. of India in 2011 and Post Doctoral award at Department of Green Life Science, Sangmyung University, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Korea, supported by Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of Korean Republic, 2011.
