Zombies of America
As described in the book Brave New World, people in todays world are being subconsciously programmed into the commercialization demanded by capitalist society.
The children of today are being manipulated into a certain mindset and conditioned not to see the faults in the world created by business. They see nothing wrong, and continue to be misled.

Lets find a simple example, and the easiest would be fast food. Lets say that a parent is in a rush, needs to pick up a quick meal, and hits the drive thru. The kid gets their meal and their drink, and happily chomps away and slugs the soda.

But the problem to this simple solution is the drink. How much ice is in the cup? Say you pay for a 16-ounce drink; logically you would think you would get 16 ounces of soda. The ice, however, takes up some of that space. The people in the store dont just put enough ice in the cup to keep the drink cold until your finished, though. They load the cup up practically to the brim with ice. So how much soda do you really get in a 16-ounce cup? 14 ounces? Less? If you are anything like me, who can down a 12-ounce can in 15 seconds, the limits imposed on the drink size by the ice are unacceptable. It is not enough for me; I need more soda. I am the victim a small, covert way to make money. The fast food restaurant prospers by not having to buy as much soda; they may have to spend a little more on water, but not in the same amount. Or, if I decide to satisfy my need for more soda, I buy a larger drink, thus turning a larger profit for the company.

So, in short, the fast food restaurant purposefully puts too much ice into the drink to save money on syrup costs and to make you think you need to buy a larger drink.

Now that the entire situation has been explained, back to the kid and his drink. He does not know that there is too much ice in his cup. He will just blindly accept it, since it will happen to him at whatever fast food drive thru he goes through. He will not know he can ask for no ice and get more soda. He will not know that the ice isnt really needed since the soda comes out of the fountain ice cold anyway. He will just accept the fact that there is a lot of ice in his cup, and he will continue to do that for all his life.

Okay, that may be a little exaggerated there at the end, but you get the point.

The scenario just presented is just a simple example of a much larger picture. This scenario is insignificant to most people, and on a whole, is exactly that. But think about the larger things that do the same thing. Think about how television is the end all be all of a childs existence. Think about the commercials that a child will think are a natural part of television. Think about what would happen if the child actually watched the commercials, maybe in rare cases, and was then under the mind control of the advertisers. Think about what would happen if the young child, very trusting and impressionable, actually believed those ads, actually believed he had to have a remote controlled truck, believed he would be cool if he had a scooter, or believed that beer made you one of the funniest people on the planet. Think about how you are controlled without you knowing it. Think about how you are conditioned to accept advertising wherever you see it, and accept it, even though you do not have to do so.

Think about how you have been conditioned for commercials your whole life and have become another drone living on in capitalist America, buying what they tell you to so you can be in style and cool.
