Why are we here?
I am writing this to hopefully open a point-counterpoint argument over any meaning in human existence and the search for said meaning.
Now, my views can be considered somewhat humanistic, i.e. not believing in supernatural beings, and all arguments are based with that assumption. I’m not saying that God does not exist, since I have found no evidence either for or against God’s existence. That’s another question that will only be truly answered after death.
Saying that, some would assume without the existence of an almighty creator, the universe is just chaos. Since there is no divine plan, everything is just sitting there, doing nothing, serving no purpose. I believe this is bogus. The universe is here for a reason, and that is the exploration and exploitation of it by humans. The universe is our playground, as it were. There doesn’t need to be an exact reason for everything, some stuff is just there to be used, like magazines in a waiting room. That is the purpose of the universe, to give humans, and other beings if they have evolved, a sufficient supply of stuff to use to achieve a greater society. The universe is for use to utilize, we define the plan and we decide what it is used for.
Now enough about the cosmos, I want people to think outside the little box inside the big box. You don’t really need to think outside the big box, why the universe is here and what it’s for we may never know. It does not matter; a single beings purpose in the universe is more than likely surprisingly small, unless you’re, like, Luke Skywalker. So you need to focus more on the littler box, human existence and society. This would be of greater importance to people as it more directly affects them, like City Hall effects you more directly than the White House.
If humans do have a purpose, remember there is no plan, than I propose it is to evolve into a greater society. That should be our goal, to evolve into something better and greater. Society, as of now, has numerous problems; the goal is to fix them. The role people play in the world, their purpose, is to contribute to society. They should try to right the wrongs of the world. Advances in science and technology are being made everyday to better the way of life. More people need to have the same goal. Don’t be so selfish; sacrifice yourself for the better of humanity. Society is what really matters most, and I hold its advances above all.
Now, here’s a theory for all you religious types out there. If there is a God and we were created in His image, I believe that the goal of humans should be to become God-like. We should try to evolve into deities by learning as much about the universe as possible. If we can solve the mysteries of the universe, maybe we can figure out how to create our own universe and our own Adam and Shamiqua. That’s the purpose in human life, to be as all knowing and all-powerful as the God that created you. It the final step in human evolution, to become just like God.
