Money Wars Episode I: The Human Menace

            Money has been an integral part of human existence for some time now. It has come to the point of being the main goal in life. It is the only thing worth enough to be sought.

            Money can be seen as a necessary evil. It is the only way to stabilize trade. Bartering can only go so far; someone may think their milk is worth 3 bags of grain, someone else may say its only worth 2, or 5 cats, or 8 magic beans. There is no way to really judge the worth of anything by the worth of other things. Therefore, currency must be implemented to standardize the system. Now you can haggle over whether it’s worth 10 or 15 monetary units, whose sole purpose is to judge worth. Trade has been settled; everyone lives in happiness with their new tool.

            There is one small problem with money, however. It has this quality of being the root of all evil. Wars have been fought over it, people have been victimized in the pursuit of it. Murder, theft, fraud and all other crimes have either been perpetrated in the pursuit of money or could have been prevented by having money available. Psychological help could be provided for rapists or serial killers. I don’t really believe in that, but for the purpose of taking money down, I’ll add it to the platform. So, all crime is caused by a lack or need for money, either directly or indirectly. Why is it then that it is allowed to stand?

            Many people can definitely see money as the heart of the problem. No one seems to stand up and fight against it, however. Money is such an integral part of our current existence that its elimination cannot even be conceived. The necessary evil lives on because it is necessary. The evil continues to menace since it seems that it is needed.

            The solution seems simple: Eliminate money and you eliminate the evil. But how can money possibly be eliminated? In this possessive society it is virtually impossible to comprehend, much less enact. The current thinking in most people makes any such implementation impossible; people will not accept it. But there has to be a way, some way to eliminated the money that cause so much evil.
