Alice walker was an American author and poet. She is one of the most recognized novelists in the world. She was born on February 6, 1944 in Eatonton, Georgia. She always loved to write poetry about things she thought about. Whether it was fictional or real, Alice Walker wrote about it. She was educated at Spelman College and Sarah Lawrence College. She was a very talented and bright woman.

Alice Walker wrote many award winning books, but The Color Purple was her best novel. With this book, she won the American Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. It was written in 1982 and was made into a motion picture in 1985. The Color Purple is one of the best black movies of all time and is still watched and read today. Most of her writing portrays the lives of the poor and oppressed African American women in the early 1900�s. She also wrote poems and novels about suicide, love, Africa, and civil rights. She was really active and the movement for civil and women�s right. Alice Walker incorporated a few features of African American Vernacular English to give readers the impression that the speaker belongs to the African American community. Alice Walker�s works influenced the Harlem Renaissance. Alice Walker was a very influential person in those times.
