HOWARD'S 56 BEL-AIR
WELCOME,
          My name is Howard Burkhart. I am 66 years old and retired. This web site will be a look at my "toys" that I have acquried over the years plus a look at some of the cars of my friends that I helped with.
         
           I purchased the 56 new on Sept. 12 1956. The purchase price was $2,675.00 ($2000.00 after trade in of a 1949 Ford 2dr. sedan) It came with the following items:--V8 engine (205 HP--4 barl. carb.-3 speed trans-3.70 rear gear& dual exhaust)--Deluxe heater, padded dash,no radio, solid Black in color with Black & White interior.

           In 1981 I started a frame off redo which laster 6 1/2 years. Below is a list of items it has now.
          
ENGINE:
           355 cid Chevy small block--4 bolt main--steel crank--GM "pink" rods--TRW 11:1 pistons--CompCam solid lifter cam( .580 lift--320 adv. duration--272 @ .050--LDA 108--installed straight up)--GM # 462 heads(2.02 & 1.60 valves)--GM blue tip push rods--CompCam large springs--HS alum. roller rockers--Mallory Unilite with Promaster coil and Mallory Hy- Fire box--Holley 750 DP with 4 hole idle circuit--Heddmen headers with 3" pipes & crossover & Flowmaster mufflers--NOS Cheater system with dual fuel pumps(Holley Blue).
          
TRANS:
          B & M trubo 400 with B & M Holeshot convertor and Star shifter.
          
REAR GEAR:
          67 Camaro 12 bolt(cut to 44" with Ford 9" axles and housing ends with Ford 11" brakes)--5.38 GM Posi-Trac unit--special drive shaft.
          
SUSPENSION:
          FRONT--2" drop spindles--S-10 disk brakes--76 Monaz dual master cly. --Center Line 31/2 by 15 wheels with 185 15R tires.
          
REAR:
           Tubbed--springs moved inboard--frame narrowed--gas tank moved to center--15 x 12 Center Line with 16.50 x 31 x 15 Pro Trac tires.
