ALIVE (1992)

aka Alive:The Miracle of the Andes

Based on a true story, Alive follows a group of Uruguayan rugby players whose rented plane crashes in the Andes while flying to Chile. After discovering no one is looking for them the survivors have to somehow rescue themselves.

An amazing story of courage and friendship against all odds.

John Haymes Newton playes Antonio Vizintin (Tintin). At 19 Tintin was one of the younger members of the team, and was very active in trying to save the group.

Alive contains a stunning lineup of actors, most of which were relatively unknown before hand. Some of the other actors include:

Ethan Hawke .......... Fernando Parrado

Vincent Spano .......... Antonio Balbi

Josh Hamilton ........... Roberto Canessa

Jack Noseworthy .......... Roberto Francois

Michael De Lorenzo .......... Rafael Cano

Chad Willett .......... Pablo Montero

Danny Nucci .......... Hugo Diaz

Illeana Douglas .......... Liliana Methol

Bruce Ramsay .......... Calitos Paez

Despite being set in the Andes, Alive was actually filmed in Canada

John Malkovich is uncredited in the movie, he plays the narrator (an older Carlitos)

Alive is not the first media to cover this story, a lesser known foreign film "Survive!" was produced in 1975, and Piers Paul Read released a book called Alive which this movie was based upon.

The actual Fernando Parrado was a technical advisor on this film.

The real Tintin now owns a plastic plant and several other companies. He was married but his wife passed away. They have two children.

Tintin then

John as Tintin

If you want to see more pictures of John Haymes Newton as Tintin please click here.

If you want to know more about the people this movie is based on I have put two good links below:

Antonio Vizintin

This is a good site. I got the early Tintin photo from this site. The page that I'm linking to is about Tintin. There are more pages just go to the main directory. I don't think this site is complete because it isn't well linked but it is still an informative site none the less.

Alive: The Andes Survivors

Another great site, this one is complete and is cool however most of its information seems to be straight from Piers book. Still worth checking out. There is also a part that shows what the survivors are doing know
