For this course it would be useful if students had a little experience of using a keyboard and mouse but beginners wil be catered for.

The course contents will be approximately as follows:

week 1 - the first week will begin with the inevitable introductions and Learning Agreement completeion - you are politely requested to note the Fire Drill and Computer Room Guidlines - introduction to the Internet, the general use of the Internet 'browser', finding information on the Internet when its' whereabouts (URL) is known, bookmarks/favourites, and printing web pages (or portions of).

week 2 - introduction to 'search engines'.

week 3 - more work on search engines.

week 4 - consolidation week.

week 5 - additional things students should be aware of such as virus protection, chat-rooms, web cams, firewalls.

week 6 - E-mail - introduction, send/receive/reply/forward messages.

week 7 - attachments - send and receive with attachment, print email and/or atachment.

week 8 - e-mail consolidation week

week 9 - putting it all together - a chance for students to attempt a typical New CLAIT assignemnt which combines the use of the Internet and E-mail.

week 10 - continuation of week 9 with an opportunity to cover additional topics as requested by students.
