Laktic Acid (Baltimore, I think)

I saw this group open for Jack Potential in Farifax in April. On first impression, you can never go wrong with an attractive female lead singer wearing a short skirt. This band is more than a skirt, though..

It's hard to say who they remind me of. Kind of like Loreena McKennitt meets Siouxsie and the Banshees. Also a bit reminiscient of Eve's Plum on some songs...In truth, Laktic Acid has a pretty original sound. The guitar work is crisp and creative, and the bass lines are promounced and aggressive, ala Rage Against the Machine. The unique sound, though, is a result of the strangely haunting vocals by Jamie Sarro. With off-harmony scales, risque lyrics and several octaves of range, her vocals take some getting used to at first, but eventually pull the songs together, resulting in melodies that are not quite catchy enough for mainstream radio, but interestingly deep enough to keep the "indie" listener happy (think of Kim Gordon's vox on Sonic Youth albums.) Sarro presents the "riot-grrl" image (I hate that phrase) perfectly, but with more sex appeal. This is a band you will either love or hate; there's no real in-between.

The Band is:
Jamie Sarro - Vox, Guitar
Roger Lamison - Bass, Guitar
Frank Kalthof - Lead Guitar
Mark St. Pierre - Drums

They have an album out called "Fishfood Heaven" which is worth finding at their shows or maybe record traders or something...
