I first heard of Jack Potential through a friend of mine whose boyfriend is the singer of the band. Having known her for years, and the fact that she always liked rap and never liked the indie stuff I listen to, I was expecting the worst.

Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. Jack Potential is a band formed out of several other area bands' members and ex-members, almost all of which were good bands in their own rights. Put together, they produce a melodic, tight sound which is (i guess) best described as hardcore/punk, though the singer's voice is better than the "typical" hardcore singer's and has better range than your usual punk frontman. Anyhow, it all comes together as a result of good singing and lyrics (Keith), blistering guitar work (David), creative bass lines (Harbin) and solid fills on the drum kit (Brooks).  Some songs made me think of a blend of Samiam and Sunny Day Real Estate, but everything had an original sound to it.They're had a record release party in March, sponsored by HFS. The album is excellent, and could be a big seller if it hit the radio I would imagine. Catchy songs that have their own sound are a rarity in this day of cookie-cutter music.....

Kudos to  Liz for finally listening to some good music......
